Memories

The yellow dragon sat hunched over her computer. Her claws flew wildly across the keys as she typed, trying to distract herself. Still, she was shaking. Her round glasses slipped off her nose, and she drew her hands upwards to adjust them. Soon, her fingers began to cramp, and she forced herself to stop. Sighing she got up from her desk. She turned around to leave, but not before something caught her eyes. Reaching out towards her desk, the dragon grabbed a photograph and brought it closer to her eye level. Two children were in that photo. One was a fish like humanoid, her smile bright. The other was the monster who was looking at the photo now. There were blue flowers behind them in a cluster. Glistening tears formed at the edges of the dragon's eyes as she was transported back to the past.

"Hey Alphys! Get over here!"

The small yellow dragon looked up in surprise. Standing not to far away from her was another monster. She was taller than the dragon, and thinner too. She had short red hair, barely enough to fit into the pony tail on top of her head. She had bright yellow eyes, one of which was covered by a black eye patch. Her skin was blue, and the tips of her ears were red. She wore a simple pair of blue jeans and a pink tank top to match.

"C-Coming Undyne!"

The dragon stuttered. She got up, dusting off her legs. She turned around and ran towards her best friend, wondering what she wanted. When she finally made it to the monster her breath was coming out in short gasps.

"Come on Alphys! You really need to get into better shape!"

The small dragon opened her mouth to reply, but all that came out was a wheeze. Undyne giggled, covering her mouth with her hands. Alphys blushed, finally receiving her breath back.

"W-What did you n-need Undyne?"

She asked, looking up at the other monster.

"These flowers! They're repeating what I say!"

Alphys looked around where Undyne was pointing. A cluster of blue flowers grew near the monster, and she approached them quietly.

"These flowers! They're repeating what I say!"

Alphys looked at the blue plants in shock. Undyne was right! The flowers were repeating her. The dragon turned around to face Undyne, adjusting her glasses.

"You're r-right! These must be Echo f-flowers!"

Undyne smiled. Then, as if a light bulb went off in her head, she approached the flowers. The yellow dragon watched curiously as her friend approached the flowers. Undyne bent down and whispered something that Alphys couldn't pick up. Then, she ran away, kicking up pebbles behind her. Alphys watched her leave in shock. She was about to chase after her when the flowers spoke again.

"I love you Alphys!"

The dragon placed the frame back down on her desk, her hands shaking. Tears stained her cheeks. She dragged the sleeve of her white coat across her eyes, attempting to clear her eyes. She left her desk and headed towards the pantry. Once inside, she grabbed a box of dog treats before heading into her basement.

Oh how she wished they could be back in the past. Everyone was happy, nothing was wrong. But now? Once Undyne knew what she had done, she'd never look at Alphys the same again.
