Author's Note: This was my first Miami fiction, written a while ago. It was just an exercise to get me back into the swing of writing, since I had writer's block for five years.
It was just one kiss. One flawless, inexplicable kiss.
Ryan Wolfe watched as she reluctantly opened her eyes. He apprehensively smiled as she glared.
"You are despicable," she said as she walked towards the elevator.
"Calleigh, stop," he said as he followed after her.
She sighed as she turned around, "Ryan. You kissed me. You. Kissed. Me. I have nothing to say to you." Calleigh turned back around and shoved her forefinger onto the down button of the elevator.
Ryan was baffled by her reaction. He closed his eyes as he slowly reached for Calleigh's arm. He leaned closer to her ear, "I'm sorry Calleigh. I misjudged your signals."
Calleigh rolled her eyes as the elevator let a soft ping indicate its arrival to her floor. She stepped inside the elevator and turned around. She watched Ryan watch her as she pressed the button for the first floor.
Ryan sighed as the elevator doors closed. He slowly turned around and stumbled away towards the trace lab.
Her lips were still tingling. A shiver ran down her arm as she touched her finger to her lips. Calleigh closed her eyes as she sighed. She was frustrated, confused, and emotionally exhausted. Nothing a long hot shower couldn't fix.
The ride home was uneventful. Calleigh slammed her car door and turned the alarm on. Walking into her apartment building, she stumbled across a sight she wasn't expecting. After the ride home, she cooled down a bit, so she wasn't as upset as she was surprised. "Ryan, two questions," she said as she held up her forfinger," One, What are you doing here?" Her middle finger went up, "Two, how did you get here so fast?"
Ryan grinned as he stood, "There is more than one way to get to your place, I happened to take the short cut." He inched closer to where Calleigh was standing, "I am here to apologize for my earlier actions. I won't leave until my apology is accepted."
"Well, there really is no need to apologize. I over reacted. I should be the one to apologize," Calleigh said as she looked into Ryan's eyes. She blinked and walked past him and closer to her apartment door.
"Calleigh, you have nothing to apologize for. I kissed you," Ryan said as he placed his hand on Calleigh's shoulder.
Calleigh laughed genuinely and turned to look at Ryan, "Would you believe me if I told you I liked it? That I reacted the way I did because I was surprised I liked it?"
Ryan looked at her bewilderedly, "At this point, I believe anything you say. I won't say I fully comprehend what you are saying, but I believe it."
She stepped closer to Ryan, "What I'm saying is, how about we finish this discussion inside, over a beer?" Calleigh smiled as she turned around and opened her door. She stepped inside and opened it wider for Ryan to follow suit.
It was just one kiss, but all it took was one to lead to more.
