Roy awoke with a jolt. He had been dreaming about a frightful scenario where he desperately needed to perform alchemy, but couldn't because his gloves were wet." His heart was racing and he felt a pressure on his chest. He found himself to be covered in cold sweat and… dog saliva?

"Damn it, Hayate" he muttered and pushed the dog off his chest, who wagged his tail and sat down beside him. "I appreciate you waking me up from a nightmare but please don't drool all over my face."

He looked around drowsily but couldn't quite place what was wrong. It was hard to see in the darkness. Hayate took this opportunity to attempt licking his face again.

"Hey, now!" He held Hayate in front of his face and suddenly realized. "Why am I on the floor?" But the dog only lolled his tongue and yawned.

Setting Hayate down, he gathered himself up. His pillow was at his feet. And there, before him, sprawled out across the entire bed was his beloved first lieutenant, who seemed to have literally kicked him out of bed coldheartedly. On top of that, she had snatched up all the blankets and had completely entangled herself in them. He leaned over the bed, tugged at the corner covering her shoulder and gently called out her name.

"Riza. Hey, Riza." A low moan signaled him that she was waking up. She rolled over and blinked at him blearily.

"Mhn? What is it?"

"Do you think there is room enough for me to climb back in there? The floor's a bit too cold for me."

She stared at his face for a second before understanding. "Oh, I'm sorry." She scooched over to her side, adding, "I've yet to get used to this."

"And giving back my blanket would be nice. Geez, is that a way to treat your lover on the first night he stays at your place? Kick him out of bed and let him sleep on the floor with your dog? I might end up preferring his company, you know. Even though his kisses are a bit too wet for my taste."

She chuckled into her pillow. "That means he likes you and doesn't hold a grudge against you for stealing his spot."

After covering himself with a blanket again, he wound an arm around her, pulling her close. "He'd better not be, because I am claiming this spot as mine now!"

She snuggled up against him and closed her eyes, ready to drift off into sleep again. "I have no objections." And a smile appeared on her lips, barely visible in the dark, but he could hear it in her words, and he bent his face to kiss her. But before his lips could touch her, she inquired in a sharp voice:

"Did you wash your face?"

"… Yes?"

"Roy!"

"But I don't want to get up again!"

"You're gonna have to because otherwise I will shove you down onto the floor again!"

"Fine…"

He begrudgingly rose again and shuffled in the direction of the bathroom.

When he returned a minute later, she had already appropriated all the blankets again and Hayate was asleep on his side of the bed.

"Oh, come on." He would have to get used to this.
