If there's anything he can thank Mr. Ichinose for, it is convincing him to give that smooth music known as jazz a try. It's a perfect reflection (and constant reminder) of the purple-eyed smartass, which served as a beautiful reprieve from all the talks of vampires and death and deaths of vampires.

So, thanks Guren, for giving Kureto a reason to yell at Shinya about that "wretched music only a certain rebel listens to".

So the Major General just props his feet on his desk, leans back in his chair, and thinks about Guren Ichinose, dear friend, not Guren Ichinose, Lieutenant Colonel (though he's a damn good Lt. Colonel: actually competent and a humorous master of mocking people). He thinks about the old times and new times and just normal times he shares with this man, from the day they met to this very second. And it's weird, how they are so alike in terms of being able to tell each other to piss off and die with a friendly smile on their face. And it's weird, how their personalities are able to differ just enough for them to make different decisions and still end up at the same conclusion.

And it's weird, how they both have so many secrets and pains and thoughts filled with darkness and they both recognize it in each other and yet choose not to say them aloud, because problems lead to people trying to solve them and Shinya is sure that no one can solve his and Guren's problems.

If they could, they'll have to focus a bit longer on Shinya's, work a bit longer; and that's a lot of pointless work that the Major General doesn't want to subject people to, like a nice, unhealthy, normal person. Guren probably thinks the same way, and that's why they gravitated to each other, forming a somewhat-skewed friendship that probably, maybe, would have been a bit more normal if the world was a bit more normal.

So Shinya Hiiragi just taps his fingers to the smoothness of the jazz, envisioning the countless ways he could mess with that black-haired high school friend, trying to figure what exactly Guren Ichinose is.

A knock on the door interrupts his thoughts, and Shinya is sure that it is Kureto showing some manners before yelling at him.

But instead, he opens the door to that purple-eyed physical embodiment of coolness complimenting his choice of music, and asks to come in.

And Shinya smiles, grins without any sign of hurt and sadness hiding behind it, speaking coolly and nonchalantly.

"Well, well, well. Speak of the devil."

You can view this as friendship or romantic. Whatever makes you happy.

So, there's a severe lack of Shinya, which is quite unacceptable. And since I somehow like this silver-haired beauteous prick, I decided more stories need to be focused on him. Though Mika still reigns as number one in my heart. Just sayin'.

Oh, and the title's a reference to the anime Lucky Star. Because I made a lame pun that's not related to the story whatsoever.
