A Broken Promise and a Broken Heart

By: Theressa

Chapter One

"Hiro-san, that not fair! You promised I could go with you today! Please, don't break your promise." I caught Hiro-san just in time to remind him of our promise, but he knew as well as I did that the promise was suppose to be fulfilled today. So what was he doing to try to avoid it? Hiro-san was trying to sneak out of our apartments without me. "Please, Hiro-san . . . you promised."

I watched as he straightened himself up, but he continued to not look at me. His back was in front of me instead of those eyes that I loved to gaze down at. "Nowaki, you can go—" I knew he was going to say this. It wasn't the first time he broke this promise.

"—'next time, but now is not a good time. I'm going to be handing out a surprise quiz for my idiot students.' That's what you said last time and the time before that." As much as it hurts me to think this, I believe Hiro-san is ashamed of having a male lover, not to mention that I'm four years younger than him, but I act like the male in this relationship. "Are you really ashamed to introduce me as your lover to your students and friends? You always say that I'm 'just a friend' or I'm 'just a roommate'. "

"Nowaki, I promise—"

"—'to take you next time, but I really need to go now.' I know what you're going to say next. Please, Hiro-san, don't you love me? If you do, then take me with you!" I begged him and I noticed that he flinched when I asked and then, his shoulders dropped as his whole body trembled. I just wanted to know if he really did love me, but I did not want him to feel guilty. "I'm sorry, Hiro-san. I'll let it go so you better go or you'll be late for work."

"Nowaki . . ." I merely walked away, sluggishly walking back to our bedroom before Hiro-san could say anything else. However, there was a part of me that hoped that he would come after me, but that hope shattered as I heard the door to our apartment open and then closed. I felt the burning sensation of my tears threatening to fall and an unbearable irritating itch began to form in my throat.

"Why, Hiro-san, why?" I asked, softly sobbing as the tears fell from my eyes and ran down my cheek to tracing my chin.

Hiroki: You make me look like the bad guy.

Nowaki: Yes, please, don't make my Hiro-san look like a bad guy.

Me: . . . Here, this is how the story will end.

Nowaki: *grabs a blue folder and opens it* This is quite a few pages. How many?

Me: I don't know . . . Like ten pages. But read the last chapter!

Nowaki: Alright, but I still . . . *reading the last chapter*

Hiroki: Why did you go silent, Nowaki?

Me and Nowaki: *approving smiles*

Hiroki: What the hell . . .?

Nowaki: I'm okay with this story.

Hiroki: What's it about? What happens in the last chapter?

Me: You'll find out in a few weeks. *smiles evilly*

Hiroki: Nowaki! What's going to happen?
