Her mind was an enchanting place; thousands of shining lights, swirling in all different directions. She could see things that others couldn't; she knew things others didn't. Wavy, dirty blonde hair cascaded down her back in waterfalls as she skipped along in her favourite tunic, shoeless. The nargles had been at her possessions again.
She looked out from one of the castles many windows, staring into the beautiful horizon that settled over the mountains. The last rays of golden sunlight were settling peacefully into non-existence, as night time took over. Unexpectedly, darkness was her favourite time of the day, as she could wander the halls, quieter than a mouse, and see the beauty of peace and quiet without interruption.
Her mind decided she would visit the astronomy tower, where she could gaze into the night sky. The many constellations would speak to her, and tell her things that never were, or were meant to be. Treading carefully up the cold stone steps, she came across a lone figure who she did not expect to meet.
"Draco?" her voice asked quietly. He looked up sharply before exhaling in relief.
"Oh, it's just you" he said, his voice filled with empty malice. He faced away from her so as to hide the thin lines of transparent tears streaming down his face.
"Is everything alright?" she questioned quietly. His aura was wrong, the angry storm of grey, swirling clouds showing that he was, well…. hurting.
"Everything's bloody fine, I'd appreciate it if you could leave me be" he said angrily.
"The blibbering humdingers sure are noisy tonight" she mused, staring into space with a noticeable interest.
"The what?" he exclaimed, turning round to face her. He looked into her eyes, and for the first time in years, he saw someone look at him not with hatred or fear, but kindness.
"No one can control us Draco" she said dreamily. "It is our own choices who define what we are, no one else's. Don't let them destroy the love that resides deep in your heart".
For the first time in five years, Draco Malfoy broke down completely. He cried for a very long time, and allowed himself to be held by someone who cared.
Luna Lovegood smiled as Draco realised he didn't have to murder Albus Dumbledore. There was still goodness in his heart.
Love conquers all.
