The Unexpected Dream
(The chapter between 7&8 in 'The Hobbit')

After his adventure with Gandalf and the 12 dwarves, Bilbo Baggins is finally able to return home. He had already left the dwarves and was returning home alone. He finally reached his temporarily abandoned hobbit- hole in the dark of night.
"What a hero I am," he thought. "When everyone hears of my adventure-," he stopped. He couldn't tell everyone that he went on an adventure, for then he would be frowned upon by the whole neighborhood of, The Hill.
"No!" He thought. "I went on a big adventure and I can't even brag about it."
He had to keep it a secret though, if he still wanted to be known as a rich, respectable hobbit. As he climbed into his warm bed for the first time in a few months, he thought about everything that had happened on his adventure.
He remembered the night the dwarves came to his house, the trolls, the goblins, the riddle game with Gullum, the wolves, and the eagle ride. Then he remembered riding into the forest after meeting Beorn.
Suddenly, he sat up. It was light outside and time for breakfast, but that wasn't the reason. See, he couldn't remember what happened after going into Mirkwood. It was like it never happened! Just then, there was a loud bang on his green hobbit-hole entrance door.
"Open up Baggins!" Said a loud voice.
Bilbo walked over to his door and slowly opened it. Every hobbit that lived in, The Hill was standing at his door. He saw that some were holding torches and pitchforks.
Then, he knew the secret of his adventure was out. "Ahhhhhhhhhhh!"
* * *
Gasping for breath, Bilbo sat up. All 12 dwarves were standing around him telling him to shut up, and to keep his dreams to himself.
No wonder why he couldn't remember what happened after Mirkwood, he was still in Mirkwood! He was still in the middle of his soon to be more dangerous adventure.
Bilbo stood up and reached for his pack of food, water, and clothes, then he resisted and sat back down quietly. He decided to wait for all the dwarves to fall back asleep. He then grabbed his pack and started heading back it the direction they came from.
"What's the point of having an adventure if you can't brag about it?" He thought.
He knew that Beorn would have already taken the horses and ponies, so he went back on foot.
FLASH!!!
Gandalf suddenly appeared before him. "Bilbo, where do you think you are going?" He asked.
"Home, to my comfy hobbit-hole where I belong." Bilbo replied.
"But what about Smaug, the dwarves, your adventure? Are you really going to let that dream stop you from having an experience of a life time?"
Bilbo thought about it. "Yes," he said.
"Bilbo, you need to understand, it's the experience and thrill that should motivate you. Not the fame or thoughts of the people." Bilbo stared at Gandalf hard and replied, "I will no longer be respected when I get home, so-"
"So," Gandalf cut in. "You might as well finish the adventure."
"I'd like to get out before I get killed." Said Bilbo.
Now it was Gandalf's time to stare. "Fine," he said. "I thought more of you dear hobbit, but I guess the dwarves were right. We should not have even bothered to bring you. Now go alone, get attacked by goblins and trolls, see it anyone will care. I just thought that maybe you would be the one to help us." With that, Gandalf disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Bilbo thought about Gandalf's last words and turned back around to rejoin the dwarves.
