It's dark in the Cretaceous at night. Darker than Connor's ever experienced before; he'd always had a telly or a mobile, always had a computer screen in front of his face and a hallway light that he could visibly see. In the flat, after the incursions, Abby never, ever slept in the dark.

No one blamed her. In fact, no one could because they all did the same thing, if they slept at all. But it's dark now, he can hardly see his own hands and he can only feel the movement beside him. Abby's stirring. She's not sleeping, he knows that for a fact. Her breathing's different when she's asleep.

No.

They're simply lying together, both fully awake, in silence in the dark. It was usually like this late at night. There was usually nothing to say. They were both hungry, terrified, dirty, and sleep-deprived…what could they talk about? How much they wanted a bed, what they'd kill for a cup of coffee?

No. Abby hated those conversations…

"It's dark," Connor muttered.
"You're a true genius, Connor Temple," Abby retorted, a small roll of her eyes.
"Yeah?" He gave a small laugh and shifted position so he knew that he was facing Abby. He could see a faint outline. "Hey, I heard longer exposure to darkened places gives better eyesight. Maybe when we get back home, we'll be able to fully see in the dark…we'd be like superheroes."
"You're a dork," She responded, but chuckled at his response.
"You can't deny that it would be cool. We would get all the secret missions for the ARC and everything! And I'd no longer stub my toe on that bloody table when I go to the bathroom at night."
"Yes you would. You're just that clumsy. It's got nothing to do with how dark it is," Abby reached over to ruffle his hair.
"You know, you're beautiful," Connor told her.
"It's dark and I have not showered properly in three weeks," She reminded him.
"I know, I know, I can just…I can feel the beauty emitting from you."
She didn't tell him how much that meant to her and just passed it off with a shrug. "You're a strange one,"
