Annia reached over and pulled the knife out of the district two tribute's back. Finally she had a suitable weapon. Carefully she examined the knife. It was very high quality, serrated with a purposefully broken tip. This knife was meant kill torturously. She turned and hurried away from the bloodied corpse. Someone had to have thrown the knife and they where probably still around. She found a small pond, where she washed the blood from her hands and face. Then she stuffed her things into her backpack and left, not wanting to be followed.
After an hour Annia finally realized that she was being followed. Though her follower was impossibly silent on their feet, their breathing had given them away. She stopped to locate them, and after a moment decided they were in the trees. This could be bad. She could throw her knife well enough, but if she lost it she was dead. She did not have any more time to contemplate her situation because the tribute jumped on her. She was actually quite lucky, the tribute came right down on top of her and she had enough reflexes to stick up her knife. The knife pierced his stomach and stuck out of his back. Blood poured down on her like rain, and the tribute. She recognized the tribute now: he was a Career from 1, screaming like he was on fire. Understandably. Annia yanked the knife back out. The tribute lay on the ground convulsing as a giant pool of blood gushed from his wound. Annia smiled and slashed at his face and hands. The Career was dead by now. He had lost so much blood. Now Annia had to find a way to clean off the stench of blood, since it smelled so strongly anyone could easily track her.
It took over an hour of tramping through the woods before she found water, and during that time she attracted some new followers: the tributes from 3, who had decided to team up for the time being. They positioned themselves, unseen on either side of her, and when she set down her knife to clean her hands, they pounced.
Annia stood no chance against both of them, considering they had the element of surprise on their side. By the time she had reached for her knife they already mutilated her so severely there was no way for her to counter the attack.
They took their time killing her, the tributes from 3. In fact, they took over two hours. In those last two hours Annia experienced more pain then she thought possible. When she finally did die the two tributes simply left, like she was a toy that had broken.
Back in five, Annia's homeland, her parents grieved excessively. She had been their only child and they had loved her so much, even when she decided that she was going to be a Career, and volunteer for the games. They even thought naïvely that she could win. How wrong they were.
