It was dark. She was so, so cold. She wanted to go home. She wanted to leave. She didn't know what she wanted.

She let out a cry of despair and anguish, but it was swallowed up in the velvety darkness.

She couldn't move. She didn't know why. She didn't understand anything anymore. Her head hurt.

A tear rolled down her cheek. She sat there, in the dark and the cold. She wished someone would help her. But no-one could come.

Then she remembered. They had all gone. The darkness had swallowed them up. It had taken them and left her here. Cursed her to be alone forever. Sitting in the darkness.

Her eyes widened as she heard something. But that was impossible. She was the only living creature on the whole planet, so what was that strange noise, the groaning of ancient engines? It might be the end for her, but she wasn't scared. To her, that sound, somehow, meant hope.

She opened her mouth in amazement. Right before her eyes, there was a flashing light, like a star, above her head. And below the light there was a box. She squinted to try and see through the darkness. Then a door opened, light spilled out and suddenly she could move.

The light was golden, warm on her skin, and she was so amazed and delighted, she didn't care how it burnt her eyes. The darkness fled from the light.

A man stepped out towards her. A man in a long brown coat and pinstriped suit. She thought she must be dreaming. He grinned at her and held up a wallet with a piece of paper in. He spoke, and suddenly she realised this wasn't a dream. She remembered who he was. The Doctor was here. She was safe.
