His vision blurred with tears that glistened at the corners of his eyes. Behind him was his Lieutenant; Riza Hawkeye, standing a few metres away from him, giving him his personal space she knew he needed.
It wasn't his fault that Maes Hughes had died, was it?
The thought was like an arrow to his heart.
He felt so useless; a person of his ranking and status was still unable to prevent his best friend's death. Surely that was his fault. If only he had been higher up the ladder…
He was reminded of his uselessness in the rain. His inability to protect the Elric brothers from Scar, only to be replaced by Hawkeye – the only one who had sense.
His Adam's apple bobbed up and down; he was trying to get rid of the huge lump that stuck in his throat by swallowing. It didn't work.
He tore his eyes away from the gravestone, but the name still burned in his mind. Maes Hughes.
The sky was so blue, but he still whispered, with a single solitary tear leaving a silver trail down his cheek, "It's raining."
He felt useless.
"Yes sir, it is." A warm hand grasped his tightly clenched fist. "But… it's clearing up."
But she was there to help him through. With her, he wasn't useless.
If the rain made him useless, she would make the rain go away.
With her, he felt like he was able to conquer anything, anyone. Maes Hughes would be avenged.

Ok. I dunno if you realized the link between Roy's "It's raining" and the fact that Roy is useless in the rain. Pretty much, he says it's raining because he felt unable to do anything or to prevent Maes' death. Yep. Another random drabble from me. Review?
