"Well, I'll be going now," Aeris said, looking over her shoulder as she spoke. She turned back to him and gave him a smile. "I'll come back when it's all over."

Cloud wanted to believe those words more than anything but somewhere, deep in the back of his mind, he knew she was not going to come back. He sensed that danger was around her. He sensed that this was the last conversation they would ever have.

He tried to call her back, watching her form disappearing in the bright light at the forest opening. She was gone now, she could not hear him and she could not see him. He pushed the thoughts aside and instead focussed on going to her, helping her. He didn't want to believe that the last conversation between him and his flower girl had occurred in a dream so he pushed it from his mind.

But as the group travelled North to find her, the sense of danger increased. Cloud tried so hard to block it out but he knew, no matter how much he tried to deny it, that something bad was going to happen. He had to get to Aeris. That was the only thought going through his mind. He sensed Sephiroth was near and he knew that the silver-haired man planned to dispose of Aeris since she was a descendant of the Cetra race, his enemy.

But even as he reached her and stood before her, his sense of danger never left. He knew it was not over as she looked up at him and smiled. A shadow fell across her figure as Sephiroth descended upon her, striking his sword into her back and through her stomach.

She was dead before she fell into his arms. There was not a thing that anybody could do to save her despite the numerous cure spells and phoenix downs.

As he watched her form sink beneath the icy waters of the lake, he couldn't help but wonder, did she sense the danger too? Why had she stayed if she knew Sephiroth was there?

There were so many questions and no answers.
