A/N -- Hey guys. This is a little oneshot drabble that was stuck in my head. It's just a cute little slash.
Disclaimer -- I do not own CSI or CSI: Miamiā¦
David Hodges was in his lab, doing what he did best, processing trace evidence for the CSIs of the fine city of Las Vegas. It was about three hours into shift, and having already processed what the nightshift had brought him, David started on the backlog from days.
After he had been doing someone else's job for about another hour, for he had received no new evidence from "his" CSIs, David decided to take a coffee break, the two cups he had had at home wearing off. David smiled as he walked to the break room, remembering the morning and waking up with his lover for the first time in a while.
David's smile quickly turned into a look of surprise that he masked with a smirk when he saw almost all of the nocturnal occupants on the lab in the break room. He had assumed that everyone was still out on scene. His entrance did nothing to stop the conversation that everyone seemed to be paying attention to going on between Stokes and Brown. Now, David didn't normally eavesdrop, but if everyone else was listening, why couldn't he.
"Have you met the new guy yet?" Warrick asked Nick as the two sat with the group at one of the tables.
"No, but I heard that he transferred from Miami," the Texan responded.
"Why would someone want to leave Miami to come here?" Warrick asked. At the looks of his coworkers he continued, "Don't get me wrong, I love Vegas, but Miami has the beach and the babes."
Nick and Catherine chuckled in agreement as Greg high-fived Brown. David just sighed and continued to drink his coffee over by the sink. The group continued to gossip about the "mysterious newcomer," as Archie had named him, while David finished up his cup. He was about to leave when Grissom walked in followed by a brunette, one that David knew very well.
"Hello everyone, sorry that I'm late, but I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Ryan Wolfe, CSI 2 from Miami."
As the others in the room went to greet their new coworker David tried to get back to the lab unnoticed.
"Hodges! Where are you going? You have to come and say hello to the new guy," Sanders said with an exuberance that should only be reserved for ten year olds.
David glared at the blonde before walking up to Ryan, slightly uncomfortable with the other's stares on him. Ryan, who seemed even more uncomfortable than David, held out his hand, waiting for the older man to make the first move.
David clasped the other man's hand with a wry smile. "Nice to see you again Ry, it's been what, five hours?"
Ryan smiled back, "About. You know you were right about that Ecklie guy. If it hadn't been for him I would have been working hours ago."
David chuckled and dropped Ryan's hand. "See, this means you should listen to me more. Well, as lovely as this has been I do have to get back to work, so I'll see you at home." With that David leaned in and gave Ryan a small kiss before walking back to his lab, leaving in his wake a smiling lover and a thoroughly confused nightshift.
