Just a quick piece of Jack and Gwen fluff

xoxoxo

Jack Harkness. Leader of Torchwood Three, Cardiff. Ex-Time Agent. Casanova of Time and Space. Scared stiff of the prospect of a date with Gwen Cooper.

Gwen had split with Rhys a few weeks ago. They had drifted apart, even since they had married. Gwen had been spending more and more time at work, with Tosh and Owen gone, and Rhys had constantly been out on the lash with Dav and Banana. He'd met someone, he said, someone who could talk to him about her job, someone who would be home at night. Someone who could be there to love him. Gwen was naturally devastated, but, as usual, had brushed herself off and carried on. Jack knew that she was still hurting, and it killed him. He desperately wanted to make it stop hurting for her. So he had suggested that he take her out. He knew she didn't think of it as a date, but he didn't care. He was taking her to a fancy restaurant – just the two of them. To him, that was a date.

As he waited in the restaurant for her, immaculately dressed in his best suit as opposed to his usual army-dress, a bottle of champagne on ice, he anxiously watched the door. He almost had to plunge his head into the bucket of ice as she walked in. She was gorgeous, wearing a knee length dress, the top half cream, one shoulder, ruffled, the bottom half black, pencil-skirt like. The dress clung to her curves, and she took Jack's breath away. He couldn't take his eyes off her even as she took her seat opposite him, and the waiter poured their champagne.
"Gwen...wow!"
She blushed.
"Not so bad yourself."

At the end of the night, Jack walked Gwen back to her flat. Standing outside, he had wrapped his jacket around her shoulders to guard her against the cold, and they huddled close to the wall.
"Thank you for tonight, Jack."
"Not a problem," he replied. "I had a good time."
"Oh...I thought...you seemed a little...jumpy."
Jack swallowed.
"You don't need to do all this. You don't need to impress me, Jack. I don't need fancy restaurants and champagne."
"What do you need?"
"You. Just you."
Jack flashed her his best grin before leaning in and kissing her gently. She kissed him back, huddling into him against the cold. They stood there, in the howling wind, kissing until Gwen couldn't take the cold anymore. Reluctantly, Jack let her slide away from his warmth and kissed her hand softly as she made her way inside. He watched her head upstairs and waited until the door had closed and a light had been switched on in her flat before heading back to the Hub.
"I love you, Gwen Cooper."
