Look, Don't Touch
He sat there. At his desk. Just looking.
He knew what he wanted could never be. Their sibling like relationship could be nothing more, she made that perfectly clear. Yet, he was hopelessly in love with her.
He tried leaving clues for her, remembering back to just after she was kidnapped… maybe it's like falling in love….it can happen just like that…. but no that did not work.
He couldn't make that first move; it had to come from her. Did she really believe all those dates and conquers he had? Maybe he shouldn't have said all them, or at least not as much as he said. It was just a distraction from her.
Each day ended the same. She would close her computer, finish writing the report she was currently working on and leave it on Gibbs' desk, and then, as if she knew he was watching her, she slowly stood up and tucked a stand piece of hair behind her ear. As she grabbed her bag and her jacket from the back of her chair, she would look up at him and smile. The smile he knew to only mean friends….maybe.
"See you tomorrow"
Those words were said with kindness yes, (depending on what mood she was in), but nothing more. No lingered gaze or extra warm smile for him. No, he was just left with memories, knowing that that will never be his. His only love of his life could never be his because to her their relationship was nothing more than brother-sister. Leaving him to look, but not to touch.
