A/N: This is a drabble I wrote for a contest. It got an honorable mention!
"Anything off the cart, dears?" A smiling woman asked Harry and Ron.
"I brought sandwiches," Ron mumbled quietly.
He watched Harry get up to go buy something, and felt envious of him. Ron hated being poor, and he hated seeing others with money. He had only known Harry for a couple of hours, and he already felt jealous of him.
That's when he saw it. A single gold Galleon sitting on the floor, glittering in the sunlight.
Of course, he knew it belonged to Harry. It certainly wasn't his, and no one else was sitting with them in the compartment.
Ron slowly picked it up, and held it in his hand. He looked at the Galleon in his hand, and then at Harry, who was buying something off the cart, his back turned away from Ron.
Harry would never notice if he kept it. He had a bag full of gold and silver! That didn't seem fair to Ron. Why did Harry have a bag of money, and all he had were dry sandwiches?
Maybe I should just keep it. Harry will never know. Ron thought.
Just then, Harry turned to go back inside the compartment, with an armload of cakes and candies. Ron quickly stuffed the Galleon under his bag, and took out his sandwiches. He watched with envy, as Harry laid all the snacks on an empty seat and took out a Pumpkin Pastry.
"Hungry, are you?"
"Starving! Here, want one? I'll swap you for one of the sandwiches," Harry said, offering a friendly smile.
"You don't want this," Ron muttered, looking at the sandwich.
"Go on, have a pastry," Harry offered.
"Thanks," Ron said, his ears turning pink. "And you dropped this, by the way," He added, handing Harry the gold Galleon.
