OoooooO
Inui looked at the clock and noted that it had been three hours and six minutes since they arrived home. Kaidoh had spent 51 percent of that time pacing around the room, hissing and glaring at the walls, 37 percent sitting on the couch, clenching the bloody collar and shaking, and 12 percent staring out the window. Fourteen times Inui had seen his boyfriend biting his lip or digging his nails into his palm, trembling with the effort of holding back the tears which had managed to squeeze through five times. Neither of them had spoken once.
The dish in the corner of the kitchen was still half filled with cat food that would never be eaten. Orange fur still covered the apartment. The cuts on Inui's hands from bathing the cat were still deep red and had only begun to heal. A thread-bare catnip mouse was still shoved under one end of the couch where Kaidoh sat, biting back his tears.
Inui tried to calculate just how soon it would be appropriate to remove the evidence of their deceased pet and when might be the best time to suggest they get a new one. Kaidoh bit his lip again, bringing the total to seven as the sixth tear slid down his cheek. Inui looked at the clock again; three hours and ten minutes of silence. He took a bottle of water from the refrigerator and sat down beside Kaidoh.
"You'll get dehydrated," he said in a tight voice, setting the bottle on the table. Kaidoh started to shake and a choked sob finally escaped his throat. Inui put an arm around his bereaved boyfriend, pulling him close. He held Kaidoh as a wave of overdue tears soaked into his shirt.
Ooo The End ooO
