I can't leave things unfinished. This will be completed I swear. Thank you for your patience.

I wipe a bead of sweat off of my brow. It was finally finished. My shot in the dark. The thing people never thought would ever be able to be created in the first place. My time machine. A loud bang sounds from the upper level of my house. I sigh, dropping the screwdriver I had in hand. I give one last smile at my machine before dashing up the stairs. It didn't take long for me to find the source of the commotion. Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver are sitting around the coffee table on the floor, playing cards. A few beer cans were on the table. I roll my eyes. It must be game night. Sonic must've used his house key to let them in. I clear my throat. Only Sonic turns his head slightly. His eyes focused on his hand full of cards. "Oh, hey Tails! I was wondering when you'd get up here!" the blue hedgehog greets me with a trademark smile. "You must've been working hard. I called about three times before coming over with the guys. I guessed it was alright-" I stop him, smiling. "It's okay, Sonic. I couldn't leave the workshop for a while. I finished my machine!" I beam, sitting on the floor next to my best friend. "Oh?" Sonic raises an eyebrow before slamming down a card. Knuckles mutters a curse before laying down his own card. Shadow smirks before placing his card. They all erupt in a groan. "Are you serious?! Shadow's won four times in a row!" Knuckles yelled, tossing his cards down. "Or you're just really awful at this rudimentary game of cards." Shadow replies, smirking at the red echidna. Silver laughs. "Yeah, it's just go fish."

"Knuckles, you didn't lose at-" I start in disbelief.

"I never got any good cards!" he says, frustrated.

"That's our last game…since mister tall, dark, and handsome over here kept winning." The blue hedgehog elbows the black hedgehog next to him. Shadow glares at Sonic, before shoving him. Silver cleans up all the cards using his telekinesis. "So how long have you been working on that thing?" Sonic asks, downing the rest of his beer. "I've been working on it for months, probably." Sonic gave me a thumbs up. "Nice hard work, buddy."

"Do you mind if we check it out?" Knuckles asks, seeming equally impressed with my work.

"Nope! I would love to try it out."

.

After leading the guys downstairs, I showcase my machine. "So, here it is! I had millions of blueprints for it. I'm so happy it turned out well, I had so many equations wrong and missing materials-"

"Hold on," Silver interjected. "You do remember I'm from the future, right?" How could I forget that? I feel Silver staring into my soul with his golden eyes, demanding an answer. "I could've taken us no problem." I twitch my ear in confusion. "I don't remember you offering before...?" The light gray hedgehog shrugs. "No one seemed interested." I see a flash of light accompanied with a shuddering sound of a cellphone camera. I turn around, staring at Sonic. He's texting furiously grinning at his phone. "Sonic..." the blue hero looks up, his emerald eyes are shinning. He's almost more proud than I am. "What are you doing?" He smiles. "I'm sending this to the group chat. I bet everyone will be so excited about it. No one has ever time traveled!" I glance at Silver. He looks down at his boots before mumbling: "I have." Sonic shoves his phone in my face, the group chat is showing nearly everyone typing. Our phones go off, corresponding with the large amount of responses in the group chat. Amy's text is the most alarming. 'OMG OMW BRINGING THE GIRLS WITH ME!' Amy lives in the center of the city, and getting all the girls together would take a while. I roll my eyes. "Wow, way to put my accomplishment out there, dad." I deadpan, staring the hedgehog in the face. "Wow, you're welcome. Don't ever do that again that was horrible." he shudders, before leaning on the wall and responding in another set of furious typing. I guess the excitement of showing some people was out the window. Shadow examines the machine. He doesn't touch anything, unlike many who I invite down here- like Silver twirling my screwdriver with his psychokinesis. "And just how do you expect it to work?"

"Oh, it's just a prototype-" I start, Shadow eyes the contraption warily. "Aren't prototypes supposed to be smaller?"

"Yes, but-"

"You intend to run trials in its full size." Shadow concluded, gazing at the prototype with his crimson eyes. I gulp. I didn't expect a full interview on my process or anything. Just a small pat on the back like always. "Yeah. Well, I thought it would be better to make it a little bigger than calculations." I explain, showing some of my blueprints. The ebony hedgehog nods, flipping through some of them. "To be honest, I have no idea if it works. I haven't even turned it on." I laugh nervously. This stops all four of the guys. They all look at me. "Tails, why not?" Sonic asks, looking confused. "It's okay if it doesn't though-"

"No it isn't. Since you worked so hard it should." Silver comments, putting down my screwdriver. "What do you think Sonic?" I consult my best friend as I look over my table of plans. I receive no answer. "Sonic?" I turn to look at the blue hero but he's no longer there. His cell is on the computer table. I check it. The last text is himself, informing Amy he would be picking her and the girls up so they could get here ASAP. I sigh. There will be more excitement for me to deal with. It's not like I don't appreciate the happiness it's just that they've never seen so moved by my inventions before. I hear my doorbell ring. Excusing myself from Knuckles and the two remaining hedgehogs, I ascend my stairs to the front door. Once I open it, Sonic comes on in with Amy in his arms and Blaze and Rouge not far behind. "What happened to Cream?" I ask, noticing the missing bunny. "Oh, she had some assignments to finish up for her classes. You know how Cream's mother refuses her to get behind in her school work." The pink hedgehog explains as Sonic lowers her to the floor. She dusts off her red dress before diving right into the subject. "So, where's this miracle? I'd love to give it a go! Imagine me in the future," she adds to Rouge in a supposed whisper, "married to Sonic!"

The blue hedgehog doesn't seem to hear, or rather prefers not to, as he descends back downstairs. The white bat giggles. "Well at least you've got a plan hun. I'd just love to see how our genius has this much time!" I rub my arm, a little flattered by everyone's compliments. "Thanks, girls. It's down here, just follow me." Leading the girls down, I hear the guys poking at the machine. Silver takes a hammer and acts as if he's working on the prototype. I feel myself have a mini-heart attack. "Please, don't touch it! I have no idea if it has sensitive spots anywhere." The light gray hedgehog shrugs. "Oops, yeah I forgot things aren't tested out yet."

"No? Tails what are you waiting for?"

"Well, I wanted to make sure everyone who wanted to see was here…plus I'm not even sure it even works. It's just a prototype, and no one's ever succeeded in making one of these." I say, tapping on the metal. Blaze circles it. "There's no room for doubt. It's already made. Might as well test it out." Shadow says, putting down my blueprints. "And if it doesn't work, who cares? We'll celebrate anyways, kiddo." Rouge adds, ruffling my bangs. "I would care! All this hype when I or Blaze could've just taken you all." Silver replies, pointing to the lilac purple cat finishing up her examination of the object. She flicks the light gray hedgehog on the side of the head. "Don't say things like that!" she hisses. Sonic leans his elbow on my shoulder. "There's no reason to feel nervous. We're your friends, your family technically." Amy comes around on my other side. "You'll be fine."

"It could be dangerous guys-"

"Psh, we face danger together all the time," Knuckles interrupts, standing from his position on the wall. "And with these fists no one's messing with us."

I smile, finally giving in to my friends' words of encouragement. "Ready?" I question myself out loud, receiving nods from the group. I grab the small activation device to turn on the machine. It whirs to life, causing a small glow. Everyone stares, completely mesmerized by its ability to actually work. "Do you think it works?" whispers Sonic, as he keeps his gaze set on the fluctuating aura of white around the prototype. "Well, there's only one way to find out." I take a deep breath as everyone piles into the machine. For once, I'm glad I made slight miscalculations. Everyone could fit inside. "Ready?" I ask, gaining small agreements from my peers. I shut the hatch behind us, and hesitantly press the motion button. It's nothing like how sci-fi describes. It doesn't spin, it doesn't even feel very foreign. It's as if you were walking and breaking into a sprint. This would be no issue for Sonic. But suddenly it halts, nearly flinging us all forward. My eyes are shut tight. I'm afraid to see where we have landed.

"Oh my goodness, Tails! It worked! It really worked!" Amy screams, holding on to Sonic. The blue hedgehog is at a loss for words. Blaze seems ecstatic, she and Silver grinning. I feel shaky as I walk over to see our new environment.

I couldn't believe it. I actually did it. Something no one else has ever done before. I've time traveled. To make it even greater, with all my friends.
