This little story came to me while I was playing the Arena in Challenge Mode. Hopefully I won't be attacked by any one character who wants to rule the story, along with the Three Kingdoms...
To give you a little back story (for those who have not read the book "Romance of the Three Kingdoms") Cao Cao rescues the Emperor Xian from Dong Zhuo's goons after Zhuo's death. Cao Cao then sets up the Court and takes over, leaving the Emperor afraid and powerless.
Tournament of Emperors: Part One
Emperor Xian looked around nervously. His personal guard surrounded him and his wife stood close by, but still he felt vulnerable. He had been held by Cao Cao for far too long. He mounted the steps and walked into the sunlight. It was time to take action.
"He's doing what?!" roared Cao Cao. He leapt up from his chair.
"I am sorry sir, so sorry. We did not find out until a few moments ago," the vassal bowed deeply and prayed he wouldn't be killed. his prayers were answered as Cao Cao charged from the room.
Cao Cao burst through the doors of his house and climbed onto his horse. The beast screamed in protest as Cao squeezed his sides and forced the animal into a bolt for the Palace. He reached the gates just as the Emperor appeared before the assembled crowd. The man stood as tall as he could above the crowd on his platform. He looked around nervously and began his speech.
"I have lived a hard life, my people. We have all lived hard lives. Since the Yellow Scarves' Rebellion our Empire has been thrown into chaos and disorder. Men have vied for the power behind the throne. Millions have died in this struggle. Thousands of homes have been ravaged. Children cry in the stillness of the night and families fear for their lives. The very earth mourns for our loss as the Heavens sends down their tears.
I say, no more! Today we make the first steps to a brighter world. Today we choose a path that shall lead us into sunlight and joy. But to take this path I must resign the Mandate of Heaven and give the title to a true ruler. But who shall take the throne? I must admit I do not posses the power to see inside the hearts of men to choose a true heir and so I make my final proclamation as Emporer.
A tournament shall be held outside the city! A tournament open to all True Heros of the Age. The prize..... the Mandate of Heaven!"
The crowd burst into applause and the Emporer smiled. He scanned the crowd and saw Cao Cao's eyes filled with fury. The man's composure nearly faultered, but he turned up his chin.
"Today we make a stand."
eh.... short. But I like it. So who do we expect to show up? and what plans does Cao Cao have?
