This plot bunny came from my cousin while I was babysitting. She was playing with her Merida and Rapunzel dolls. Then she suddenly pulled off their shoes and exchanged. So, here is the shortest oneshot I have ever written; a grand total of 538 words, excluding A/Ns
Disclaimer: Merida and Rapunzel (along with their shoes) belong to Disney
Merida was minding her own business, crouched polishing her bow in front of the fireplace, when Rapunzel suddenly bounced in. There was a bright, eager glint in Rapunzel's eyes. "I wanna try your shoes." Merida gave Rapunzel a slightly confused look, gently placing her bow on a table.
"Come again?" Rapunzel was bouncing happily. "Well, you're from a different kingdom, right? And I've been thinking that your shoes must be awfully comfortable, if you can shoot and ride in them. And I've never seen you wearing anyone else's shoes, so why not we switch and test?"
Perhaps Rapunzel had questionable sanity, Merida decided, to want to switch shoes so randomly and suddenly. Or maybe asking to switch shoes with someone was a princess initiation that Merida had missed. Merida was beginning to regret ever joining the Disney Princesses, if all of them were this psychotic. Well, at least Mulan was okay. Then again, Mulan did dress up as a warrior and force men into dresses, so maybe she was a psycho as well. Couldn't a girl get a bit of sanity here?
"Okay…" Merida said slowly. Merida lowered herself onto a sofa in front of the fireplace. Eagerly, Rapunzel seated herself on an armchair across Merida's. Merida unlaced her shoes carefully while Rapunzel hurriedly pulled hers off. The little brunette stood up and bounced in front of Merida. Again, she wondered what had pushed her to join the Disney Princesses.
The moment Merida's shoes were off, Rapunzel snatched them up and threw her own purple silk shoes at Merida. Yelping, Merida threw her hands up. The shoes bounced off her. With a semi-insane look of delight in her eyes, Rapunzel put on Merida's blue shoes. She laced them together hurriedly. The end result was messy, but it worked.
In a daze, Merida watched Rapunzel bounce around happily. "Oh, wow, Merida, your shoes are super-comfy!" she practically shouted, despite the fact that Merida's shoes were a size bigger than her own. Suddenly, Rapunzel stopped and turned to face Merida.
"Well? Aren't you going to put on my shoes?" Merida realized that she, indeed, had not put on Rapunzel's shoes. "Um, sure…" she said hesitantly, putting them on. They squeezed Merida's feet painfully. Merida gritted her teeth.
"They're a bit too small for you, aren't they? Your shoes are a bit too big for me, but they're great! Who made then, Merida? Your hair's really curly, Merida, if you straightened it, I think it would be longer than Pocahontas's hair. I like your accent, Merida, it's funny," Rapunzel said quickly in succession, not giving Merida a chance to speak. Merida opened and closed her mouth like a fish.
"Oh well, best be going. I promised to drink tea with Mother!" Rapunzel told Merida cheerfully, after a few moments of adorable rambling. With that, she pulled off her shoes off Merida's feet (Merida winced slightly at the sudden movement), threw Merida's shoes at the redhead, forced her own shoes on and disappeared through the door.
"See ya, Merida! Thanks for the shoe exchange!" Rapunzel called over her shoulder as she raced out of the room. Yes, Merida decided, if all the Disney Princesses weren't crazy, Rapunzel was, at the very least.
Read and review! I might continue into a drabble fluff series if you people ask nicely...
