A/N: Alternate ending for "The Crossing". I don't own Person of Interest.
Root heard the sound of Harold's footsteps, and she turned to see him open the door.
"I'm sorry for your loss Harold."
"There was no loss. John is fine. So are Detective Carter and Detective Fusco."
"Then why are you here Harold? It's not time for a meal." Root asked tauntingly.
Harold simply remained silent.
"It feels so good to be free Harold. And so good to be able to talk to you." Root said, lovingly caressing the Bluetooth Harold had given her.
Harold put the car in park and got out. Root joined him. They watched Joss and John talk from afar. Root suddenly broke the silence.
"Of course." She walked quickly down the alleyway.
"Ms. Groves? Where are you going?"
She ignored him and kept walking. She reached the couple and pulled the gun from Joss' side. She raised the gun, and moved it slightly to the left as if on command. Then she fired a shot into the darkness.
"What are you doing?" John hissed.
Root reached into her pocket and pulled out a cell phone. She shined the light down into the alley, and the dead body of Simmons was visible. Then she slid the phone into her pocket and walked back towards Finch.
"So this is why you let me out Harold? You did the right thing."
Harold just looked at her. "You know Harold, I could escape right now if I wanted to. Because I know that you have the car keys in the left inside pocket of your coat. I also know about the taser hidden in your right pants pocket. But for some reason, she wants me to stay. So I will. Because she knows what she's doing. She knows."
A/N: So review?
