Elize liked the silence. While she rarely got it, what with Teepo being with her twenty-four seven, she appreciated it when it did show up. It let her think, let her look back on what she's done, what she's felt... And the mistakes she's made. While letting Jiao walk to his death was a big one, the greatest mistake she made was never saying how she really felt... About Jude.
He really was a do gooder, always checking up on her, always looking out for her. At first she was embarrassed by his kindness, but she soon grew to like him doting over her, always wacthing her grow. However, she soon started getting embarrassed with him all over again, but about different things. About how their hands would touch when he helped her up, how he smiled at her when she said something embarrassing, how he made those terrible jokes...
But she knew it would never be. Not because she was so young, but because his heart belonged to another. She could tell he loved Millia. There was no doubt in her mind. The way they looked at each other, the dedication they had for one another... It was obvious she was not the one he loved...
But that was okay. She had her old friends- Rowen, Leia, and even Alvin. And there were her new friends from school. And of course, there was always Teepo. As long as she had them, she'd be okay... At least, that's what she told herself. But still, there was this feeling that wouldn't go away. It wasn't depression, but more like... Anticipation. Excitement. She often wondered what it meant, but today she knew. Even if he turned her down, she had to let him know how she felt.
Walking over to her desk, she got out a pen and paper, ready to write a letter telling him everything. But when she started thinking of what to write, nothing came. She stared at the paper for minutes, maybe even hours, but no words were written. She sighed, and started thinking even harder. In time, she wrote her letter- or rather, her sentence. All the letter said was,
I love you, Jude.
With a mixture of hope and doubt, she sealed the letter into the envelope and sent it off with a carrier pigeon. No matter what came of it, no matter what he said... She was glad to let him know.
Because nothing was worse than not knowing.
