Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up. – James A. Baldwin

Strangers

Hogwarts is amazing; Lily thought as she gazed round the Great Hall and sipped from her orange juice. It was beautiful, with the early morning light streaming through the windows as the owls dropped packages and letters up and down the hall. She wondered if she should write to her parents, but decided to wait until the evening, when she could tell them about her new classes.

Her classes! Lily couldn't believe that she was here, about to learn magic. Severus had told her all about the lessons they had, from potions to charms, and she was excited to start. According to Marlene, who was opening a care package from her parents, they had potions first thing, with Slytherin. That meant she could talk to Severus, about how sorry she was to be in a different house to him, to tell him about the tower and the amazing beds. She wondered what Slytherin was like and why he wasn't at breakfast.

Lily turned to ask Mary a question, but was interrupted by a loud and boastful laugh to her right. Some of the other first years had just sat down, and Lily recognised them from the train, so ignored them. One of them, a dark haired boy with glasses turned and gasped "Wow, your hair is really red."

"Thanks for noticing." Lily moved away, but he stopped her.

"I'm James Potter. Marlene-"he nodded towards the blonde sitting opposite Lily "Is my cousin."

"Oh." Lily said, uninterested.

"And this is Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew."

She nodded at them. "Well, if you excuse me…"

"Wait!" He pulled her shoulder around. "You haven't told me your name yet!"

"Lily, Lily Evans."

"Nice to meet you Lily, Lily Evans."

They shook hands formally.

Mary and Emmeline stood up, and Lily moved to follow them. "See you later Lily!" She heard James yell, as they left the Great Hall.

This is the first drabble! I've planned a few, so stay tuned and leave a review if you like :D
