Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy VII… yet. evil grin
Hi everyone! I'm usually kind of indifferent to VinTif fics (or rather, I'm just really picky). I'm getting really bad writer's block for All This And Vincent Too! So I thought I'd try something else. Let me know what you think.
A Table Set for Two
He entered the bar tentatively. She was sitting alone at the centremost table. Nothing had been touched but the now empty bottle of champagne she'd left in the cooler, the candles laid out had burnt down to the wick and the white porcelain plates had yet to touch a single crumb of food. Cloud had cancelled again.
This was not the first time that Tifa had been left to dine alone, yet somehow none of the group had ever actually witnessed it happen. Vincent, unsure on what to do, placed a hand gently on her shoulder. The air was filled with her favourite perfume, the kind she only wore on special occasions. Her long hair was cascading down her shoulders in loose curls, accentuating the low neckline on what Vincent presumed was a new dress. She must have spent hours getting ready.
Finally, she spoke.
"I'm such an idiot." There was no humour in her voice, no emotion.
"I can assure you otherwise..." Vincent started, being cut off.
"…I knew he wouldn't come tonight, he never does…"
"…I'm sure he's busy…"
"He didn't even call." Tifa said quietly, the hurt coming through on her voice. Vincent had no reply for this.
"I just…" she started "…I'm sick of doing things by myself, I-I'm not superwoman."
Wordlessly, Vincent walked into the kitchen, retrieving a trolley with the vaguely warm meal located on top and another bottle of champagne from the fridge. He returned to the table and sat opposite her, pouring each of them a glass of champagne.
"Vincent…" she protested
"I may not be Cloud," he started slowly, "and this food may no longer be as warm as we'd hoped…"
"It most certainly isn't!" giggled Tifa, eating a forkful. She glanced over at him thoughtfully and smiled softly. "Thanks, Vincent."
He raised a glass to her, a ghost of a smile hidden behind his cape.
"To Tifa, who is not yet superwoman, yet is still one of the most remarkable women I've had the pleasure to meet…"
So… what did you think? Reviews Love.
