Sue dangles her feet over the edge of her bed. Toroko is at the bookshelf, trying to find something to read from the small collection of books. Night has fallen outside, and Sue doesn't like going out very much anyway. It's hard to enjoy herself when everyone is awkward around her, or flat-out hostile in King's case. She's getting sick of it. She might not be the most extroverted person, but she still needs people. Without Toroko to talk to she'd have gone crazy by now. Toroko is, so far as Sue can tell, the only Mimiga in the village capable of blushing brightly enough for it to show through her fur. And it's so easy to make her blush.
Sue glances downward at the necklace she's wearing, and an idea swirls to the forefront of her brain. She cups the tiny silver fish in one hand and stares at it for a moment, thinking. She's had it for a few years now, and quite likes it, but...She only hesitates for a moment before undoing the clasp and hopping off the bed. Toroko is sitting on the edge of the other bed, leaning against the wall and absorbed in her book.
"Hey." Sue walks over, determined to get things over with before the nervousness can set in. Toroko looks up, puzzled.
"Huh?" The other girl blinks, shutting the book and setting it in her lap. "What is it, Sue?"
Sue leans in and drapes the silver chain around Toroko's neck, fumbling a little with the clasp at the back. Toroko blinks again, holding the fish-shaped charm flat against her palm.
"You can have it." Sue mumbles, walking back to her own bed, uncomfortably aware of how hot her cheeks seem to have gotten. "I mean, I'm not gonna be here forever. This way you'll have something to remember me by." Toroko is still staring at the cool metal in her hand, tilting it slightly so it glints in the light. Then she looks up and smiles.
"Thank you, Sue." She leans back and opens her book again, and Sue relaxes. The smile was worth it.
Notes: This was supposed to be a little Sue/Toroko drabble, but it didn't work out very well. I guess there's still sorta hints there, and it's cute either way. Except then Toroko goes and loses it in the reservoir and Quote takes it. Oh well...
