"Did you know that there are other dex holders, in other regions besides Kanto and Johto?" Crystal asks one day, as they're all relaxing after a battle.

Gold looks up at her, surprised. "No way, really?"

Silver just snorts, ignoring them both; it's not like he hasn't thought of that before. The world is too big of a place to only have six people working on the Pokedex.

It's six months later that he first sees the boy with diamond eyes.

He's at a sort-of reception party, and there are far too many guests packed into Professor Elm's lab. No one seems to care because they're all busy talk talk talking, and Silver stands in the corner because no, crowds do not make him nervous. Food is laid out like blankets on buffet tables. Silver finally gathers up the courage to get a drink, slipping between people carefully, not wanting to bump into anyone on accident.

Someone taps his shoulder gently before he can get to his destination. Silver turns around, startled. He examines the new face warily. Gray eyes like mine, he notices, except they've got a shine that mine don't.

"Oh," says the boy, "I thought you were somebody else."

Silver wonders how he of all people could be mistaken for another, if his hair isn't enough to go by. "That's okay," he replies nonetheless, returning his thoughts towards the drink table yet again.

"My name's Diamond. I'm from the Sinnoh region," the shorter speaks before he can go.

Sinnoh. He's heard of that place, once or twice. "Silver. Johto."

"Nice to meet you, Silver," Diamond smiles and reaches out to grab onto Silver's sleeve. The redhead jumps slightly, and then Diamond leads him over to where Gold and Crystal are chatting with a boy and a girl.

"Those are my friends, Pearl and Platinum."

Silver finds himself glancing back at those glass-like eyes again. "Uh...that's Gold and Crystal."

Everyone chimes their hellos. Pearl and Gold launch back into an animated conversation about Berries, of all things, while the girls look on, amused. Diamond keeps his grip on Silver's clothes, fixing him with a bright gray stare, as if he's afraid he might run away.

Huh. Somehow, Silver knows that he won't.
