Hope you like it! Thanks to Lyss for beta'ing!

She meant everything to him. When he'd screw everything up, she'd be right behind him to clean up the mess. When he was down, she would cheer him up somehow, letting him know he wasn't alone, never leaving his side.

He couldn't live without her. Even when she'd be gone for only a couple of weeks, he'd go crazy. Like the time she had to go to Montana, and he saw a lab tech passing, his mind made him think his Montana walked by. I'm losing my mind, he had muttered. When she had left, she had taken his mind with her. And also his heart.

He blamed himself for letting her leave so easily. He didn't blame her for leaving him a card, instead of hugging him like she hugged the rest.

He didn't blame her for standing him up. He didn't blame her for not letting him in her heart.

Sure, he had been mad and hurt at first, but when he had found out her secret he realized he couldn't blame her for all that.

He blamed himself, for not helping her, comforting her. When she needed him the most, he had let her down. Of course he didn't really let her down, but it felt that way.

So when he came home, he did the only thing he could think of. He followed his instincts and flew to Montana.

When he stepped through the doors of the court, and saw his girl in the middle of her testimony, his heart jumped and broke at the same time. He couldn't handle it to see her like that. So broken, so little, so vulnerable, but still so brave to do this.

He just stood there for a while, their eyes locked. Then he realized they were in a court, and quickly sat down. Once she had finished her testimony, she came over and sat down next to him. They didn't speak; they just looked at each other.

You came, her eyes said.

Of course I did, he responded, I had to see my girl.

Now, when all her worries were washed away, her pretty face shined again. She could finally live again, and he was so happy to see her like that.

He pondered all that while lying in his bed, one arm firmly wrapped around her waist, the other holding his head up. They had agreed they wouldn't do things one of them wasn't ready for, and he was planning on keeping that promise.

He lightly kissed her head, careful not to wake her. She looked so peaceful when she slept.

One time he had found her, sleeping in the office they shared, her head resting on her arms. She looked exhausted, but peaceful. He had watched her for a long time, trying to figure out why she couldn't look so peaceful when she was awake. When she was awake, her face showed her worries and her pain, but when she was asleep none of that was visible.

Now, after the court, she had closed that chapter of her past. Sure, she did miss her friends now and then, but it didn't dominate her life anymore.

He glanced at the clock and decided to wake her up. The alarm would ring in three minutes, and he always liked waking her. He removed his arm from her waist and used it to caress her hair.

She was still asleep, and he used that moment to tell her those three words he had used too much, but never felt more.

"I love you," he whispered.

She smiled, still asleep, and murmured.

"I love you too."

A/N: Okay I think you know who 'he' and 'she' are, if you don't know, feel free to send me a message. I might as well write another one from Lindsay's POV :)
