i guess i need you, baby

She's standing there with her bigbig smile, and ocean blue eyes, and hair that's so much shorter than last time they saw her, and they're all gaping at her like they're seeing a ghost, which, to be honest, isn't that surprising because she just vanished for godric's sake, so of course they're going to be shocked. Really, it would be more startling if they weren't standing with gaping mouths and wide eyes, because it's been two years without any contact, and that must have been killing them. But they're not staring because she's back, – though she'd like to pretend that's why – no, they're staring because she's standing there holding a little girl, and she sure as hell didn't have her when she left.

Her family didn't need to know, but having a child was probably the last thing either of them had wanted, with him travelling and constantly throwing himself into dangerous situations, and her eagerly following him. Even if they didn't travel, they weren't really the parenting type. But of course, the universe could never let her keep something as wonderful a him, and somehow she ended up pregnant, which put a real downer on the whole defeating evil thing.

She supposed it was a rather idiotic idea, trying to hide the fact that she was pregnant, but every time he lookedat her she could feel the butterflies in her stomach, twisting and turning, and when he touched her every thought flew out of her mind and there was just him and her, fire and ice, two runaway spirits colliding again and again.

And how could she give up the excitement he brought? Being with him was dangerous, and life threatening, and she was a complete fool to stay, but she'd never felt more exhilarated in her life, and how could she just throw all that away? Yes, she wasn't thinking straight, and she needed to go home because she really couldn't keep living this way, but even just thinking about him shattered her self control.

He was smart though, smarter than anyone she'd ever known, or anyone else she could expect to meet, and once he found out it was all screaming and crying and anger because he couldn't keep her but he couldn't let her go. And really, getting involved with her was a stupidridiculousterrible idea to begin with, but he never was one to follow logic, was he?

There was so many more things he'd been dying to show her, years and years of adventures stretched out before them, and he'd lost it all in one night.

Her family welcomed her back with open arms, because sure they were upset and mad and confused, but she was family and they loved her and nothing else mattered except that she was back. And she was just like she was before, with her sarcastic remarks and entertaining stories, hiding away her sadness behind a facade of laughter. Everything was back to normal, just like that. Except it wasn't, not really. Because each night her dreams were haunted by his face, his smell, him, and she knew it'd never go away, not completely.
