Author's Statement: There is a lot of hate towards the character Kikyou and I wanted to sit back and look at her, really look at her. I wanted to explore what made her character and comprised her motives. So, this drabble is the result. Only 163 words, yet I find it terribly powerful. Please review, critique, and criticize. I would love to know your thoughts on the piece and not the character.

Disclaimer: The character Kikyou from the anime and manga Inuyasha does not belong to me. She belongs to Rumiko Takahashi.

Slowly it entangles her. Seeping into her thoughts like the sweetest poison, it whispers across her skin in a gentle caress and leaves her shivering with an ache welling up from the pit of her stomach. Her body is numb to all that surrounds her as time creaks to a halt. A haunting melody of self-pity floods the senses, dulls rationality. Fingertips frozen with loathing (her touch chilled), the hatred pooling in her gut and sloshing menacingly just beneath the surface, she stares blankly out at the world.

She is alone.

It was a mistake for her to be here. Unwanted, she roams the land snatching souls to fill the void where her own should have been. The weight of it all presses against her shoulders; soon it will be too heavy. The burden grows each passing day.

Sadness is what she embodies. Loneliness creates her. Hatred solidifies it all.

"Kikyou."

Turning her back on it all, she wanders, searching for herself.
