IchiRuki One-shot
Ichigo's thoughts on when Rukia fades away due to his loss of Shinigami powers. Before the Fullbring Arc.
Please review and critique! This is my first one-shot and I do hope that this is enjoyable!
"Love kills just as easily as hate does." – Me (not relating to this story)
Ichigo looked up at the deep blue sky. A few clouds littered the heavens, drifting with the wind, and passing by without a second thought. It seemed too sunny to be a sad day, yet it was. It was a sad day because he had lost her… again. Like the rain that fell from the sky and into his palm, she had slipped through his grasp.
Her presence now is unknown to him. He could never again see those beautiful violet eyes. The way they looked at him made him feel weak inside. They broke down the barriers that he had put up long ago. The walls had protected him from pain and sorrow. He never wanted to feel so useless again… not after her, not after his mother. She had leapt over them though, all because she held power over such a demanding, yet soft word.
"Ichigo!" The word triggered a heart pounding turn around with a confused look. He knew that his life was in her hands, his power came from her. Yet… she was torn from his side and all those memories became painful.
The time period when she had gone from his life, was a time of painful nightmares. Dreaming of her being executed over and over again, tossing and turning in the middle of the night. He couldn't let that happen to her, not over his dead body. What's worse was that he couldn't let someone that he could protect die, because he didn't try. And he sure as hell tried. By fighting long and hard he had dealt with his enemies and his own thoughts. That one torturing memory kept replaying in his mind, haunting his very existence. It was one that had plagued his mind since it happened.
Rukia had protected Ichigo, by yelling at him to leave her alone… to let her go. But he refused to let her go. He had to protect her no matter the cost. She was his dream, but he was told to forget his dream. Not once did he think about forgetting her, when he knew that he had to get her back.
And he got her back. He had used heroics because she was there, acting as if he wasn't worried about her. That's how their relationship is; they care, yet they act like they don't care. Putting on an act of being angry at each other, yet they loved each other deeply, sharing a special bond that could not be explained.
He had denied it with all his heart that Rukia was dead. His face contorted into one of anger and disbelief. It didn't feel right. His mind and soul knew that she wasn't dead. Yet, tears fell from his heart. They dripped in slow motion, as he was too simple minded to notice them. The tears made him stronger though. Self-consciously he was able to make the pain into one of strength.
Now, it was in that moment, when she was fading away that he had realized that he had missed her. His heart had yearned for her, yet he had ignored them. Now he recognized that he had loved her. She had changed his world, his world which was now drowning in regret.
These memories of rain were because of her. He had cried desperately for her. Yet, they had also stopped because of her. She had been there for him and she is still waiting patiently for him to tell her about his feelings. Rain will come and pass, but she will always be there to be his ray of sunlight. And he'll always remember those memories that were created in the rain.
