Slumber's Warmth

Asami had decided to spend her night away from everyone else for once, who were all watching Korra's new abilities and spar with Mako and Bolin, and sat on the coastline of the island. The cool breeze coming off the water made Asami's hair flow beautifully. She sighed contently, looking out at the water enjoying the quiet night, until a voice disrupted the moment. "Mind if I join you?"

Asami turned around to spot General Iroh looking down at her, fidgeting slightly making Asami smile.

"Sure, General Iroh. I don't mind." Asami smiled.

"You can just call me 'Iroh'." He smiled softly, taking a seat beside Asami.

"Why aren't you with everyone else?"

She sighed softly before answering him. "I just wanted some alone time." Iroh looked down, immediately regretting his decision to come down to see where she had been.

"I can leave if you want." He said.

"No, I don't mind, really. I'd like some company." Asami pulled a lock of her hair behind her ear and rested the palm of her hands on the ground, moments of silence growing between the two.

"I think you were one of the bravest ones out there, you know. To go against your own father...that takes a lot of courage. I know we don't know each other well, but I'd love to get to know you more." Iroh spoke to break the silence.

"I never thought I had to that in my life, ever." Asami sighed. "Things happen for a reason I guess."

"I believe that too, but for whatever reason, I know that you know you made a right decision. I don't think I could ever do what you did, Asami." Asami's lips curled into a small smile before frowning again at their topic of discussion. "I think you're pretty amazing." Iroh placed his hand on top of hers and she looked up him to see him smiling softly down at her.

"Thank you." Asami looked back out into the water and silence broke out once again between the two. Iroh noticed goosebumps forming on Asami's skin and he took off the United Forces coat he had on and wrapped it around her shoulders.

"You seemed cold." He said right away, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly as his cheeks sported a red tint to them. Asami noticed how easily flustered he became and chuckled. "I was. Thank you, Iroh."

"I think staying out here is better off than watching the spar. A lot more peaceful and it's beautiful." He shuffled over closer to Asami, fidgeting slightly trying his best to not be so shy. Asami wrapped the jacket around her tighter as she decided to lay down, eyes focused on the night sky. General Iroh decided to rest himself on his elbows and there was a comfortable silence between the two as if they've known each other for years.

"I know we don't know each other well, but I'd like to get to know you more." It repeated in Asami's head over and over again. She wouldn't mind it, General Iroh had already done so much for her. Without warning, Asami soon had fallen asleep. Iroh looked down at her and smiled. He thought she looked beautiful and at peace from everything that had been going on. Iroh decided to lay down beside her and wrapped an arm around her, not wanting to disrupt her slumber, and he too, soon drifted off to sleep.

When Asami awoke the next morning to the sound of birds chirping and the crash of waves, she noticed an arm hooked around her waist and spotted Iroh fast asleep beside her. Asami smiled and went back to sleep. The two sharing body heat in the crisp morning air.

End.
