'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now

'Til you put me down, oh

Hermione should have known better. She knew how Draco felt about Muggles. Why did she think he could get over the prejudice he was taught from a young age just for her?

She used to dream of him saying, 'Marry Me?' Now though, she knew what a foolish dream it had been. He'd never marry a Muggle-born, never have Muggles as in-laws.

It wasn't love at first sight for Hermione where Draco was concerned. He was a prat to her in school; so in fact, she kind of loathed him, especially with the way he did his best to antagonize Harry and Ron.

After the war, he seemed to change. He was quieter and more withdrawn. He didn't actually do anything inexcusable during the war; he hadn't been the one to kill Dumbledore, and he actually lied about Harry's identity while they were at Malfoy Manor, which helped them escape. Even so, he felt guilty for the little he did do.

That was when Hermione fell for him. It was when she saw what he could be. She no longer thought Ron was someone she could be with. She cared about the redhead, but she needed to be with someone who had ambition that could keep up with hers, and that just wasn't Ron.

Draco had dreams to be someone special, and after the war, she knew he wanted to be someone different from his father.

She believed that was one of the reason he started dating her; it was something Lucius Malfoy would never do.

She knew she shouldn't get involved with Draco. Even though he seemed to have changed for the better, there were things deep down that would always be there, ingrained in his personality because of his upbringing. Draco equaled trouble, and Hermione should have known she'd get her heart broken.

She really only had herself to blame.

In a year, Hermione felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Draco was an expert in bring both out in her.

He could make her feel so beautiful and special, like she was the only girl Draco ever saw. On the other side of the scale, he could also make her feel like she was a dimwitted child, a nuisance, best to be ignored.

Hermione had never felt those kinds of hectic emotions in her life, especially when only one person was bringing them out in her.

She realized the relationship could never work when Draco met her parents, and then proceeded to insult them. He might put on a good show, but he still thought he was better than Muggles, and as a consequence, Muggle-borns.

Draco must have realized that as well because after about a year of an emotional relationship, he was the one to end it. Despite the fact that Hermione knew it was for the best, it didn't change the fact that she could hear her heart cracking at the knowledge that she wasn't enough for Draco.

When he finally put her down and walked away, she didn't know how she'd get past it, but she knew she had to figure it out if she'd ever find happiness for herself.
