The heavy rain hit harshly against the window, the thunder that followed every few moments roared loudly and grew louder, along with the crashing of lightning. There were very few storms where the Holmes brothers lived and there had never been one in Sherlock's six years of life, he had seen rain but they lived in a place storms were not a common occurrence. The clouds were thick and grey in colour, it was also 11pm and Sherlock huddled under the covers of the bed, his eyes lifted to the window and even through the curtain he saw the obvious flash when lightning cracked down from the sky.
He moved and tugged his curtain back, eyes moving over the sky above though he retreated quickly and found his way back under the covers at the harsh crash of another loud roll of thunder. Having not seen this sort of weather before he was frightened by it. He took in a slightly shaky breath and crawled along the bed, feet planting on the floor. He moved to his door, opening it a crack, mother would be sleeping by now and Mycroft too but he would still need to be quiet. He slipped out of the gap and closed the door quietly, his feet met the carpeted floor as he ran to his brother's room, Mycroft was thirteen, seven years older than him.
He was soon at the room, he slipped in quietly and made sure to close the door behind him, he moved quickly across to the bed and crawled up to settle into Mycroft's side, drawing slightly closer as the storm rolled on. The elder brother had attempted to ignore the way his bed moved when his brother joined him though he soon looked towards the small boy and a sigh left his lips "Sherlock, it's late you should be sleeping" he said softly and turned to face him. His small form trembled and his eyes somewhat bigger than normal met his own, Mycroft frowned slightly and drew the boy closer into him, hand moving soothingly through his hair, it was obvious what he was afraid of, the boy whimpered and moved closer when the thunder sounded again.
Mycroft shifted to sit up and drew Sherlock's form onto his lap, arms wrapping around him along with his blanket "It's just a storm, it'll be gone in no time, it won't hurt you" he explained softly, his hand continuing to sooth the boy "It's scary" Sherlock replied and nestled into his brother's chest, Mycroft hushed him and held him a little tighter. "How about I tell you a story to take your mind off it?" the elder Holmes asked and Sherlock nodded softly, his elder brother made up a story about pirates and by the time he was finished the storm was gone, of course he had made sure that was the case. He would tell the boy of thunder and lightning, what made it happen and how tomorrow, he'd not listen when he was afraid.
Sherlock gave a small yawn and settled further into his brother, Mycroft smiled softly and brushed his curls softly "Can I stay with you?" the small boy asked, Mycroft nodded "Alright but just this once" he answered, he drew Sherlock from his lap and settled him near him in the bed, the smaller boy nestled into his brother happily "Thankyou Myc" he whispered softly, the elder Holmes only smiled and tucked them both in, an arm remaining around his little brother "Time to go to sleep now Sherlock" he whispered back and the pair were off easily.
