Meg couldn't remember what had happened to get here.
Meg couldn't really recall where her friends were. Her companions.
"Guys...?"
Her aching side told her all she needed to know. Blood seeped through her fingers like warm salt water, causing her to cringe with each passing step. Every limp was a signal of her dire situation, and she didn't know where they were.
The killer was somewhere. The heart in her chest was beating so hard she could barely form words to softly shout for Dwight, Jake, or even Claudette. Just where were they? With a stumble, the athlete rested against a tree, gasping for air as she realized she might be dead if she's hit again. Her fists could clench, telling her that she still had enough blood to survive until the exit.
All five generators were on, shining a way towards the soft, spot of red in the distance. It was so...so far away.
Hope suddenly filled her mouth and stomach like a burst of adrenaline as she realized that there was another light up ahead. A flashlight. Dwight's shaking, and uneven voice was music to her ears.
"Meg?" he called. "Meg, where are you?" A soft voice that filled her own throat with delight, and she happily opened her mouth and breathed in, attempting to shout through the heavy heartbeat that was now in her neck.
She didn't get it out.
A hand wrapped around her mouth, stopping any word or scream that attempted to slip from her lips. A cleaver sat oh-so-delicately on her side wound, causing her to cringe and struggle hard. She didn't need to turn around and look at the twisted grin of the Trapper, and even if she wanted to, she couldn't. His grip was strong against her jaw, and the cleaver just softly tapping at her open wound, forcing her to really keep quiet.
"Meg? Meg...?"
Dwight was coming closer, having heard the rustle of bushes.
Meg's eyes widened as she whimpered in her throat. No, you moron! Go away! Get back to the exit! No, for the love of God, no!
"Meg? Where are you?"
As Dwight stepped in front, Meg felt tears spring to her eyes as the cleaver pulled away from her body and came crashing down on the clueless boy she had come to be friends with.
