Disclaimer: I don't own Red Dwarf or the story Last Human - And I paid for all my RD merchandise with my own money... And Lar's credit card a lot of the time too.

Well hope you like this quick one shot I wrote after hearing episode 2 of the Last Human audiobook - I've never read the novel (boooo - BAD me!) So I'm just going by the audio book. Hope you like it and... stuff runs off and cuddles Danny/Cat pictures)

Curiosity

Cat stared again at his own ghostly features. Feeling thankful for the release of tension he'd found in laughing at Rimmer for been well and truly put in his place by Kochanski. But in the long run it didn't make a difference – He was still looking at his stylishly beautiful head, that was no longer attached to his equally beautiful body.

He looked up as Rimmer began arguing pathetically about not wanting to stay behind with Lister, then turned back to see Kryten carefully placing the head in his back.

"What the cloister do you think you're doing?" Cat asked in a whisper, suddenly feeling very religious – A pointless activity considering his god was currently stood a few metres away jabbing and banging at stuff to try and fix the electrics.

"I'm sorry sir – It's for research." Kryten whispered back sadly as he fastened his bag and began to make his way back to their Starbug.

Cat nodded and made to follow Kryten, but hung back a moment for Kris.

"You alright?" She asked softly as she skipped over to join him.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" He said a tad too enthusiastically as he flashed his glistening teeth.

"I mean it – It's not every day you pick up… Yourself." She soothed, picking her words carefully.

"Yeah… There's one thing I know that's more important than tomorrows outfits rota – I'm not going back there." Cat said in a determined voice.

"You've got to – For all we know, we all could be dead in there!" She replied, grabbing his arm and looking into his soft brown eyes.

"And you think that's an excuse to go in there?" Cat cried incrediously

"There also could be survivors in there!" Kris defended softly.

"Well the thing that lasered me could be in there too!" Cat snapped as he turned away and began walking again.

"Look it's ok to be scared!" Kris told him gently as she caught up to him again.

Cat stopped and looked straight at her, his features reflecting shadows all around in the torchlight.

"I'm not scared – I just don't fancy being separated from the rest of me." Cast said huffily, before running his hand through his hair, pausing as his fingers touched the back of his neck.

Kris looked him over, a look of sadness, in her eyes. "I understand, but don't you want to find out how it happened? Or why? Aren't you the least bit curious?"

Cat spun round again and looked into her eyes. "…Ok." He said resignedly, before sighing and walking on again.

"Thanks Cat." Kris smiled after him.

"But, you know what they say." He called back sadly. "…Curiosity killed The Cat."
