Just a little one-shot, it's very depressing =D

They had been together for nearly five years.

Sakura had stolen his heart and given hers to him.

Ever since the day he found out her parents died he'd been her pillar of support, the one who would look for her when she disappeared in the middle of the night.

And she was his life support, the thing that brought him back from all the pain and the death and the loss.

They shared everything from their bed to their missions.

And age had never been an issue, despite Kakashi's concerns. They were shinobi, Sakura had told him, and could die any day, why wait?

Those words echoed in his mind as her emerald eyes met his red and black ones and a thin streak of red escaped the corner of her mouth.

He fought to reach her, but the battle was fierce and he was accosted several times in his desperate rush to find her.

And he didn't find her until the battle had died down and a deathly hush had fallen over the scarred terrain. And there she was, face down in the dirt, marked from the others strewn around her only by her cherry blossom hair.

He ran to her side, gently lifting her into his arms turning her so he could see her pale face.

Her brilliant, beautiful green eyes looked back at him. But the light in them had dulled. It was something he had seen in the eyes of many comrades, impending death.

"Kakashi." Her voice was faint, soft. "Did we win?" He nodded and she smiled. "Good."

"Sakura..." She hushed him and a tear slid from the corner of her eye.

"Thank you for finding me." He knew her words meant so much more than just finding her now. He remembered the day that he'd found her by the memorial stone, mourning the death of her parents. And the time she'd run away from the village when Sasuke died and he'd found her in the final valley. She knew he remembered it all. "I love you." She whispered. "Don't ever forget it."

She went limp in his arms then. The last light in those eyes ghosting away where he couldn't follow.

A week later the memorial was held, Kakashi stood beside Naruto as he read out the name of all those who had died in battle. His voice trembled and he choked as he reached Sakura's name. Agony was apparent on many faces when they were reminded they would never see her again.

People lined up to lay flowers for her, many tears were shed as they spoke a few words by her grave.

In the end only Kakashi and Naruto remained. Her lover and her brother. Both of them had loved her.

Kakashi shed no tears as he stood beside his last remaining student. He watched, detached as Naruto sobbed, muttering incoherent words to his lost friend.

Kakashi gave his life in battle five months later.

After five long, dead months of wandering aimlessly around the village, pretending to take an interest in life.

It was for this that he had lived. Sakura would never have forgiven him if he had just given up and died; so he traded his life for Naruto's, saving his Hokage.

Naruto paused at the end of his list at the memorial.

"And lastly; Kakashi Hatake." The atmosphere was sombre and everyone waited expectantly. "We've been missing him for five months already now."

He turned his head to look at the small Sakura tree that stood near the place where his adopted sister lay. Kakashi had been late more than usual since she'd gone away, and the light in his eyes had dulled. Everyone knew he had been waiting. He looked back out across the crowd and knew his thoughts were mirrored in all those watching him.

"He's gone to find our cherry blossom for the last time."
