A/N: Yeah, so I decided to answer another challenge, and this is what came out. Hopefully, it doesn't suck too bad, because it was spur of the moment, but hey...anyways...LOCI isn't mine. :runs away:

She'd heard the rumors long before she'd ever considered it. Leaving Vice to join the Major Case Squad was only going to further her career, or so she'd been told. So when the offer had come, she'd taken it. And she'd found herself face to face with one of the most talked-about detectives in the department. He didn't seem anything like what she'd heard. But then again, they'd been standing in the captain's office.

It wasn't until a few hours later that she saw the rumors she'd heard might actually be somewhat true. She stood off to the side, watching him work the crime scene they were at, trying to keep a look of disbelief on her face. At that point, she couldn't help but think that it wasn't any wonder why he'd been through so many partners in such a short amount of time. To put it shortly, the man was, well…strange.

She'd decided to stay, though, and her friends had called her crazy. They told her they pitied her for having to put up with him, and she ignored them. And when they closed the case, she'd leaned back in her chair at her desk, smiling faintly over at him. He'd returned the smile, and they'd stared at each other for a split second before turning to the paperwork that had mysteriously appeared on both their desks.

After a few minutes, their silence started grating at her nerves, and she looked over at him. He didn't see her. He was too busy concentrating on his task at hand to notice, and she shook her head, fighting the sudden desire to laugh at the look on his face.

There was still a lot for her to learn, and she knew it. But the rumors that she'd heard meant nothing to her anymore. He'd been through too many partners for her to count, and she was determined to be there until the department finally saw fit to split them up. The first case they'd worked together had only served to prove one thing.

This was only the beginning.
