A/N: What was going through Ethel's mind when Esmerelda was a trophy? This is my ideas about it.
How Much She Needs Her
Ethel had just sent Tabby off to Mildred and walked back to her room, for the first time in twenty minutes able to just think. Ethel made her way over to the stand where the trophy, which was actually her elder sister Esmerelda was and picked the trophy up gently before lowering herself onto her bed as she just looked at the golden trophy.
"Esmie..." Ethel said wanting to hear her sister answer back, of course nothing happened at all.
"Esmie..." Ethel said again shaking the trophy slightly as she got desperate, all she wanted was to turn her sister back but only Gullet could do that.
"Esmie...please" Ethel said growing desperate. The trophy glistened in the light but there was no reaction.
It was at that exact moment Ethel noticed something she normally never noticed. The silence. She could not hear a pindrop right now, and somehow being alone in the quiet was scaring her. She held the trophy to her chest wishing more than anything she was hugging her sister instead.
Ethel realised then how much of a brat she had been and how stupid she had been, what the hell had she been thinking? She was such a idiot and hurt her sister who was only ever nice to her just because she was jealous, and now she had lost her sister for good.
Ethel knew that she had always taken her sister for granted, she never appreciated anything she did like she should of done but now that she had time to think alone she realised the truth she had known pretty much all her life but chose to ignore.
Ethel needed Esmerelda, she really really did. She was the only one who listened to her and she needed her to keep her sane but she also loved her, she could feel her chest hurting from losing her, she really did love her she knew that now and Ethel had no idea how to live without Esmerelda, the girl was more of a mother to her than her sister, that was the moment she realised she would give anything up if she could have her sister back.
"Esmie...please I am sorry...I need you...I really do" Ethel said knowing if anyone walked past now they would think she was crazy for talking to a trophy but she didn't care.
"I love you and I am sorry that I am such an idiot and such a bad sister, just please come back, please" Ethel said hugging the trophy closer as she cried silently to herself, the world feeling so scary when she was by herself. She had no idea how to function alone.
When Esmerelda returned to human form Ethel could not help leaping on her and hugging her. How was it possible she had missed her so so much? She never wanted to let her go again. Ethel felt her sister's arms around her and suddenly her world was safe again, she felt safe and at ease again and knew everything was going to be okay because she was no longer alone.
"I am sorry, I love you" Ethel said into her sister's chest not sure if she even could hear her over the noise outside but when she felt Esmie squeezing her tighter she knew she had and without any oral communication Ethel knew she was forgiven with that action.
"I love you too Ethie" Esmerelda replied and Ethel felt herself smile as she heard the name she had missed hearing. She truly did love that name and she had thought she would never hear it again which is exactly why Ethel sniffed.
Ethel held onto her sister promising never to do something so stupid again, she could not bare the thought of losing her sister again and she was lucky this time, next time she might not be, she knew the whole school was watching them hold each other but for the first time since she started school Ethel Hallow did not care, the only thing she cared about was holding Esmerelda and not letting her go again.
