Punishment
"You don't have to punish me, you know," Nessa tells Boq.
Boq decides acting clueless is the best idea, even though he knows exactly what Nessa is talking about. "What are you talking about, Madame?"
"That! I'm talking about that cold voice you use and how you always call me 'Madame.' I'm not stupid; I know it's a punishment for what I'm doing to Munchkinland."
Of course it is, Boq thinks. How can you expect me to be nice to you when you're enslaving Munchkinland and all I can do is watch? He only shrugs and says "This is how I feel most comfortable talking to you now, Madame."
"No, it's a punishment. And I want it to stop." She glares at Boq.
Boq returns the glare. Not until you learn your lesson. "No."
Nessa sighs. "You don't have to punish me, Boq. I know what I'm doing is wrong."
Then why won't you stop?
