You love moments like these. When you've just woken up, turned over, and there she is, a twisting bundle of sheets, a mess of pillows under which you know something perfect lies. This could be the last second you breathe and you would die happy. You know this, in the same way you know all fundamental things. It's just you and her and the silence. Your parents are both out of town, no siblings to worry about looking after and the Glee club aren't around to disturb you.
You know today you're going to get up and at some point mention her, much to the groans of others because this is what you do everyday and everyone pretends like they're sick of hearing about it all but really, they're just jealous. They're all just jealous of what you have. Being with her everyday is what makes everything worth it, makes everyday worth looking forward to. Even when people say this and people say that, about her shortcomings and flaws and they think you're blind to all of it in the way that all lovers do, but then eventually, the glass will shatter and everything will crumble. But they're the ones that don't understand. What shortcomings? You don't tolerate nor do you simply choose to ignore her imperfections, they're like old friends to you now. Her quirks, her unique sense of humor and the things she whispers into your ear when she wants you. The very pores of her skin which map out her body's divine symmetry when you brush your fingers across her. You love her, you love everything about her.
A smile flickers on her lips and you know she's very close to regaining consciousness and the day starts for both of you, and reality comes crashing in, bursting your bubble. But right now, in these precious moments before it happens, you can't help but grin back.
Neither of you say a word, because the silence won't last for long. There'll be school teachers and Rachel and singing and dancing and everything in between. Just a cantankerous cacophony when all you really need is silence. So you enjoy being like this, for the time being. When all she has to do is give you a smile, and you'll know exactly what she's thinking: that you're the only thing she needs and the only one she trusts. You know all of this because you're thinking the same thing.
Her eyes are open now, and she's looking right into yours-it's the most breathtaking thing you've ever seen -they're telling you that you're everything and that as long as her spirit is alive, you'll never have to worry about being alone.
She reaches for your hand-the smallest bump, the slightest graze-and you can't help melting at the sensation of your skin against hers, marvel at how effortlessly your fingers fit together. You're waiting for that moment when you finally hit the ground-or that moment when you open your eyes and find yourself in her arms. If this is a dream, you desperately want to stay asleep.
Stop. Don't speak. Your heart's never felt as full as it does right now. Being next to her with her hand safely in yours and frankly, you'll never let go. The usually deafening voices of those who don't understand, those who won't approve, they don't matter anymore. Right now, it's just you and her. Your hearts' melodies filling up the empty silence of the room.
All of a sudden you decide you want to shout at everyone you meet today how much you adore her.
For now, you'll let the silence speak for itself.
But you can't wait.
