It was stupid, and she knew it. She didn't care though, she always did the right thing, always did the smart, sensible thing; today she got to be the reckless one.
That really didn't help the feeling in the pit of her stomach as she stood beside Black*Star, a harness around her torso that was attached to a stretchy rope. She took a nervous gulp as Black*Star hit her back a little too hard, boasting about how it was great that she was being such a pal, and how much she must have wanted to spend time with her god.
She nearly screamed when he took a running start and then jumped off the side of the bridge. The water was a good 150 feet down below them, and even though she knew that the idea of the rope breaking and sending the assassin to his demise was just daft, it didn't calm the butterflies that were currently trying to escape from her stomach and up into her throat.
Soul's hand fell on her shoulder and she turned to see him giving her a toothy grin. "Don't worry, Maka. Black*Star's already down there, so we would've known if it was dangerous. It's just bungee jumping, nothing to worry about."
Maka shrugged his hand off, and then looked down over the edge again, her legs shaking. Soul chuckled from behind her and she turned to him, a large dictionary in her hand as she brought it down on his head with a resounding chop.
"You don't have to make fun of me for not liking heights like this, Soul!"
"What the hell, Maka? You didn't have to do that! I probably shouldn't even jump now, I might have an aneurism!" Soul exclaimed, clutching his head as the blood pooled around him.
Maka couldn't help but laugh, and Soul looked up. "You really are mean, you know that don't you, Maka Albarn?"
"And you really are an idiot, Soul Eater." With a smile she extended her hand to him and he just grinned as he took it and stood.
A flick of his wrist and she was in his arms, his lips pressing against hers briefly before whispering, "For luck. Love ya!"
"Wait, what?" Soul's grin just widened as he gave her a gentle push.
Maka screamed as she plummeted, feeling like a giant yoyo as she hit the bottom and bounced up. She couldn't help but laugh as she bounced again, her fear forgotten as she bounced up and down a few times.
"Hey, Maka, release your harness!" Black*Star's voice was close to her, and she looked to see him floating in the water below her. The fall was still a good distance and she looked up as she felt someone tug on her cord.
"Don't be an idiot, Black*Star! You know you're not supposed to remove the harness, you're supposed to be pulled back up." Maka glanced up as Tsubaki and Soul began pulling her back up.
Both of them were already in their harnesses when she got up there. "Did you enjoy it, Maka?" Tsubaki asked.
"It was great, once I got over being pushed." Maka said, smiling.
Soul just chuckled from behind her, looking over the edge at the swimming Black*Star. Maka glanced at Tsubaki who covered her mouth to hide her giggles.
"Hey, Soul?"
"Yeah?" Soul craned his neck to look at her.
"For luck." Her foot connected with his backside and he tumbled head first off the bridge.
They all burst out laughing when the "King of Cool" let out a decidedly uncool scream and Maka shouted over the edge, "Love you too, you bastard!"
A/N: This was written from the one word prompt "Daft" given to me by Yuu-chan. Thought I'd surprise her with a SoMa. I don't own Soul Eater, and yes, there were paramedics waiting in the wings.
