Chapter 1
The croon of Doodz's Fire parrot awoke her. Turning over to her side, she smiled at the grey bird who sat on the small branch like perch that sat on her nightstand. She reached over and stroked her head, the bird leaning into her fingers, making cooing noises. Tiny non-harmful flames spouted from her wings as they fluttered.
The morning rays gently filtered through her soft white drapes along with a refreshing breeze. It was hard not to keep the window open when the weather was so perfect. Sitting up, Doodz ran through what was on her schedule but stopped, realizing she was off from her Mod duties for the day. She could lounge about all day and relax but it seemed like such a waste when it was so nice outside.
Doodz took a shower and put on some nice comfortable clothes. After feeding her parrot, she left her apartment and headed outside into the already busy streets. Everyone greeted her by name, being a Mod had that effect. She graciously responded and went on her way. It was indeed a beautiful day, with the sun high in the clear blue sky, the perfect temperature accompanying it. Strolling along the sidewalk, Doodz people watched as they went about their business. Shop owners were already out, boisterously calling people inside their stores that sold all sorts of things from food to rare gems.
"Good morning Doodz," a man said with a huge smile. "Would you like to come in and sample my wares? I have just gotten a shipment of exquisite artifacts found all around the globe. I will give you a generous Mod discount."
At first, she was hesitant but the sight of something inside grabbed her attention and she found herself going inside without a word. The shopkeeper chuckled and followed her.
Her gaze led her to a strange shaped gold talisman that sat behind a glass case. Colored gems embedded formed a foreign symbol she had never seen before. She could not help but stare at it, mystified.
"As I said, we have gotten some amazing new items. I have no idea what it is but isn't it magnificent?"
Awestruck, Doodz nodded, the urge to buy it steadily rising. She was not prone to making spontaneous buying choices but today, something was different. The man opened the case and let her hold it. As her hands caressed the smooth talisman, she felt a very slight sensation tingle its way through her fingers.
The man did indeed give her a good deal and she walked out of the store carrying the item in a silk carrying bag. She had a sudden immense urge to want to show someone and following that urge, she found her way to the mayors building. Who could appreciate this sort of thing like her fellow Mods and Mayor?
