What if Harry's godfather had not returned in Book 3?

July 31st: 12:05 am.

Harry Potter, the Boy who Lived, had never felt more miserable in his life! He was due to start his fourth year at Hogwarts in just over a month, but had no idea of how he was going to get to Diagon Alley or catch the train. In previous years unexpected solutions had come up to these problems, but this year he had been locked in his room for the entire summer by the Dursleys, and he was even doubting that he would be allowed to go back to Hogwarts in September. The only bright spots in his life were that he had finished all his homework, and that he had been writing regularly to Ron and Hermione. At the moment he was lying on his bed, gingerly eating a slab of cake from Hagrid, which tasted as if it had been carved out of dry concrete.

Deciding that his problems could wait until later on in the morning, he rolled over dislodging his photo album of his parents and went to sleep. Next morning, he was awoken by the usual sounds of Aunt Petunia screaming at him, and Dudley thumping down the stairs. Jumping out of bed and throwing some clothes on, Harry stopped briefly to look at his photo album; it was open at a page he had never studied before: his parents were sitting outside Hogwarts with a younger Remus Lupin, as well as two other men and a young woman Harry had never seen before. While he was pondering this, he heard Uncle Vernon's harsh roar, and decided that he'd better leave the rest of the photo album until later.

Breakfast that day at Number 4 Privet Drive was a very tense meal. Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia were furious with Harry for keeping them waiting, while Dudley (who was enjoying every minute) tried to consume as much food as he could before his mother remembered that he was on a diet! Throughout the whole meal Harry tried to ignore his relatives' death glares, while thinking up a way to present the whole Diagon Alley/ Hogwarts senario to them. Eventually deciding that the simplest way was always the best, he politely asked Uncle Vernon if he could leave in the last week of August, so that he had a chance to go shopping and catch the train. He had hardly finished his sentence when the teapot was thrown straight at his head! This was quickly followed up by a variety of articles including plates, cutlery and the marmalade!

What will happen next? Will Harry be allowed to return to school? Will Dudley ever lose any weight? I haven't written the next chapter yet, so you'll just to wait! Ha, ha, aren't I evil?
