Carnivals
You licked pink, fluffy cotton candy off of your fingers, smiling.
I watched.
You asked me what I was looking at.
I said nothing.
We saw the ferris wheel from far away, high up in the air.
I gulped, scared of heights.
You got cold on the way up, shivering as I wrapped my arms around you.
I gave you my leather jacket.
You giggled at my arrogance about my great arm.
I dunked the clown.
You kissed me with a smile, pointing at the stuffed bear.
I only knocked down two bottles.
You pouted when I left you by the carnival tent.
I brought back your stuffed animal.
You pushed me into line at the hammer game.
I hit the bell and won a kiss.
You dragged me into the funhouse, laughing the whole way.
I held you when the actor jumped out at us.
You screamed at the top of your lungs during the roller coaster.
I looked over to see your hair awry and a smile.
You looked up at me shyly when you saw the tunnel of love.
I walked you over, helping you into the boat.
You gasped aloud when we reached the end, with the pink arch.
I pulled out a ring.
You held out your left hand, tears streaming down your cheeks.
I laughed, sliding it on.
You left the carnival mine.
