He's back.
It was the only thought Kate could muster clearly, not surprising after a long week of crime scene after crime scene. It was good to have him back, but it was emotional exhaustion to add to the physical exhaustion she already felt from 18-hour workdays.
He's back.
He was the same Castle, the same fun-loving, light-hearted Castle. But that didn't change the fact that her heart was still shattered from when he'd left for the summer. After so much time spent building up a wall, he had knocked it down, and then he'd left for four months.
He's back.
Work was fun again. She'd almost forgotten what it was like to have a fresh pair of eyes looking at evidence, to have someone with an outsider's point of view share opinions and ideas she might not have though of first. Murder is gruesome, murder is ugly and murder is distressing, but like she'd told him before, he had a way of making it a little more fun.
He's back.
She closed her eyes and willed herself to stop thinking of him, even though there wasn't much time in the last six months that he hadn't been on her mind somehow. She had hated him for leaving, especially with the beautiful blond on his arm. But she'd hated him even more for coming back into her life when she'd finally begun to live it without him again. The truth was that the hate was just a cover for the way she really felt.
He's back. And she had missed him.
