Note: This fanfic is a birthday fanfic for Minerva McGonagall. I do not care if she is fictional she's an awesome fictional person! Therefore I find that I should make a birthday drabble for her. So please enjoy!
Disclaimer: Don't own Harry Potter.
When Minerva McGonagall looked around the Great Hall she knew something was going on. Except, her colleges would only grin at her when she turned their way, and the students looked eager in anticipation. Of course, she didn't know what to expect. What was so special about her birthday anyways? Another day in which she has an awful reminder she is getting older.
So she quickly ate her lunch –which formed a deformed smiley face- and quickly headed off in the direction of the Transfiguration Classroom. All she wanted for a birthday was a nice peaceful day in which it wouldn't drag on, and her friends didn't have the urge to throw over the top parties for her.
Thankfully, her last three classes totally forgot it was her birthday (or at least feigned forgetfulness, she thought to herself), so the day didn't drag on, and soon the thought that she had a birthday today was forgotten. She lost herself in the thing she loved the most: Transfiguration.
So after her last class of the day, Minerva decided to just grade papers till Dinner. As she started to move towards the papers she had collected today, Minerva decided not to start until dinner as she really didn't want to read anymore chicken scrawl, or overused cursive. So instead she debated with herself: Practice Chess, or take a stroll on the grounds.
The thought of a crisp autumn day brought Minerva to her feet and she smiled walking out towards the grounds. She was so filled with the anticipation of getting some time to think and just observe nature, that she totally didn't see the empty classroom in which giant rolls of banner paper was stuffed inside, nor did she hear the whispers of teachers who were talking about 'one huge surprise'. She didn't even notice when she had arrived at the Entrance to the grounds, but instead continued to on walking in some random direction.
Not even when Peeves dropped sticks on her did she leave her train of thought, but when she realized she was in the dungeons she did stop to ponder where exactly she had intended to go.
"Isn't the grounds in that direction?" She asked terribly confused by her sense of directions before walking off in the direction of the grounds once more.
By the time she got to the Entrance to the grounds again, a hand tapped her shoulder impatiently.
"There you are!" Xiomara Hooch called out grinning from ear to ear. "I've been looking everywhere for you, I've been wanting to ask you something." She said and grabbing Minerva by the arm, slowly started to lead her in the direction of the Great Hall. But, Minerva not really thinking of where she was going started to get into the conversation Xiomara had started (it being Quidditch of course).
She didn't even realize that because of the chill she took her bun out of its customary position and let her hair down. But as soon as she walked into the Great Hall, she took a moment to realize where she was.
"SURPRISE!" Hundreds of voices called out. Minerva looked around in bewilderment shaking her head while she laughed. In the middle of each House Table stood a large cake in the form of a Tabby cat. Of course instead of the usual orange red color, Ravenclaw had a blue one, Slytherin had a green one, Hufflepuff had a yellow one, and Gryffindor had a red one. Minerva smiled as she continued to laugh and everyone stared at her as she looked so different.
And then she noticed that there was a large banner levitating around the candles that said in bright Orange colors "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TABBY!" For once, Minerva McGonagall didn't mind having such a big party. It actually seemed like the best birthday she had ever had.
