Avatar: The Last Airbender
Prologue to: The beginning, Or the end?
The dark dragon's claws clicked against the cool gray stones, and her roar echoed around the vast chamber. I watched silently, trying to discover what my mother was up to.
"Where is he you useless lump!" she snarled, turning nimbly to face her prisoner. "I thought I told you, find the prince-" she clicked her long, curved claws in anticipation.-"or I will destroy you and everything you love!" The man's face showed his fright, more of a cornered mouse than a human. The dragon, my mother smiled with sick glee, and her fangs sparkled in the dim light. I turned slightly away. I hated when she was like this. Why couldn't I have been born to normal parents? I wondered silently. Why did I have to have an evil dragon for a mother?
The man trembled, and spoke softly. "Your majesty, we have tried to find him but-"
"Be quiet you ape!" Black eyes pierced right through the man, down to his soul. He screamed in agony, and writhed on the ground, whimpering. I flinched away, unlike my mother, I hated suffering. Oh, so unlike my mother.
"Look, Haku, you want to live? Then I suggest you do as I tell you." Smooth scales clicked against the rocks as the monster turned to look at the other side of her lair. "I have a child to take care of now, Haku, and If I want her to live in a better world, I must find her a suitable mate." At this I stifled a gasp then turned and fled, my footsteps loud and echoing in the huge chamber.
"Curse the stars," I spat as I ran towards my personal quarters. The last thing I heard before I turned away was my mother saying, "Find the prince of fire, or you will die." Then I turned and fled, afraid of what awaited in my future. The dragons are not dead. Oh no, they are not dead. And they want revenge.
