His Biggest Regret

Barney says he's doesn't do regrets, but that's not true. He regrets a lot of things, but there's only one he would give up everything to change. Barney/Robin.

So this is my first HIMYM fanfic. This fic popped into my head though and I couldn't let it go, so why not? It's just a short drabble of Barney's biggest regret, but I thought it suited him.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the story.

His Biggest Regret

Barney doesn't do regrets.

At least that's what he tells people.

He regrets letting Lilly decorate his apartment that one time. He doesn't understand how the hell that happened. Maybe his subconscious had been telling him something about working; maybe he was just exhausted from bringing a new girl round all the time. Whatever the reason, he allowed Lilly to go too far. Thank God he came to his senses before it was too late. If it had gone any further he might have ended up married to Lilly (which would be fun until after he had slept with her).

He regrets breaking the Bro-Code with Ted. For one thing Ted had never broken it with him (how the hell had that happened? Ted was such a one-woman kind of guy that it seemed impossible that he had met the requirements of the Bro-Code). But Barney had almost lost the best friend he ever had. Ted had been so mad at him that Barney had thought he would never forgive him. It was also the first time that Barney had ever actually felt guilty about having sex with a girl. Barney doesn't know if they would ever have become best friends again if Ted hadn't been hit by that car which led Barney to get hit by that bus. Even though that was the worst pain he's ever felt, he doesn't regret that.

He regrets making the slap bet with Marshall. Why the hell couldn't Robin have been a porn star? His face has never felt so much pain when Marshall rears that big hand back and hits him. Marshall's not exactly a weakling. And why did it have to be the face? He has a gorgeous face, so perfect for smiling at girls and charming them into bed.

But none of those regrets compare to the one big regret he has; the one would turn back time to change.

He regrets not going up to her and telling her she was wrong when she chose Kevin over him.

He regrets not taking Robin out on the super-date.

He regrets tapping Robin on the shoulder and saying, "Have you met Ted?" and walking away.

In short, he regrets letting Robin slip through his fingers time after time.
