Keith stood at the window, watching as the sky began to lighten, signaling the dawn of a new day.
'Of a new era...'
Zarkon was dead, Lotor captured. It seemed so surreal.
Finally they would have peace... But what did that mean for him?
'No more excuses - time to move forward.'
So he waited, knowing she should arrive soon...

As soon as the door opened, Allura saw him, his lean form silhouetted against the backdrop of the sunrise.
Galaxy Garrison had lost no time ordering their pilots return to Terra and immediately received resignations from Hunk, Lance and Pidge.
'The others are staying, but will he?' Once more, she wondered what would stop him from going now that the war was won.
"Keith?" Anxiety filled her voice as she made her way to his side. "I got your message - you said it was urgent."

Keith felt an icy knot form where his stomach should be. He hesitated, praying he wouldn't lose his nerve; this was the most difficult thing he would ever do.
"Princess-"
"Allura."
He turned to face her, a slight smile tugging up the corner of his mouth. "Allura, I..."
She didn't wait, instead reaching out to take his hands. "No matter what it is, you can tell me."
The breath slipped past his lips and his shoulders sagged; she saw this as his attempt at goodbye and wanted to ease his heart.
"Keith, it's all right," her words were spoken evenly, but her tone revealed her pain. "We won and now it's time for us to return to...to...our former..." she sighed, trying again. "I know how much your work means to you and I understand that you must leave-"
"No!"
His ferocity took her aback.
"No?"
"Allura I don't want to leave- I won't!" He extracted his hands from her grasp, running them through his hair. "I can't go- don't you see?"
"I...I'm not sure..." She had never known him to be uncertain, never seen him so seemingly lost.
Looking down into her wide blue eyes, Keith saw a mix of confusion and fear. 'It's now or never!'
He pulled her against his chest, smiling at the way her mouth formed a tiny "o" in surprise. Wrapping one arm around her waist and resting a hand on the small of her back, he used his free hand to caress her cheek.
"I have loved you since I first saw you," he tucked an errant curl behind her ear, tracing the delicate pink shell with his finger. "I've wanted to tell you, to surrender to you, since the moment I knelt before you and offered my oath. Allura, if only you'll have me, I will stay forever."
"Keith..." Her tears fell freely. "Oh Keith, I love you, too!"
And so, he kissed her senseless as the sun rose up to greet their new love.
