Chapter one: I wont speak your Jesus Christ
What is a rebel? A man who says no.
Minnesota.
(let's pretend it's a really small Podunk city in Minnesota, I don't want to offend anybody)
The snow falls heavily. It's a blizzard. It's cold and wet and no one should be out in this type of weather at all. Inside of a red and white "Volkswagen bus" or "Hippie van" if you will. Two boys lay, panting, out of breath, shirtless and sweating. The blonde haired, greed eyed boy runs his long fingers through the brown haired, hazel eyed boys' hair.
"Kendall." he breaks the comfortable silence. The green eyed boy looks down at his partner humming.
"Kendall…you think we'll ever be able to you know…be a real couple?." his voice is small and meek, and a pink hue dusts his cheeks.
"We are a real couple." the blonde reassures. The other boy moves to lean on his elbows and look his partner in the eyes.
"No I mean like…a real, real couple you know? Like holding hands in public, or kissing. Or just being able to tell people that you're my boyfriend."
The blonde stares at him for a while. He pulls the boy up to his chest and places a chaste kiss to his damp head. His senses overloading with the coco shampoo James uses.
"We will…soon. When we're considered as humans as well." he mummers sadly against his head. The slightly taller boy sighs heavily and snuggles closer in the others chest.
"I just want to be able to hold your hand in public…without getting judged for it." his voice becomes a whisper as sleep takes over his body. For hours he watches his boyfriend sleep peacefully on his chest. A pang of sadness slices through his heart as the words that James said play over in his head.
He just wants to be able to hold his hand as well…
"Please, they're what's turning this country into nothing but filth." a women says into her phone in a mocking tone. From the dining table a brunette boy watches his mother with a sad expression as she rants about how the government is not doing enough to keep illegal "Aliens" as she so kindly puts it, behind the boarder. She's racist.
"Of course not, that's all she's good for, cleaning and praying to her saints." she cackles into the phone. The boy turns to look towards the hallway, where a young Hispanic girl is dusting. He feels sympathy towards Lupe. She's a nice and wonderful woman.
"Logan did you finish your work sweetie?." she hangs the phone up and her tone turns into a sweet nurturing one. It makes Logan sick.
"Yes mom…I'm going to be now. Good night." he kisses her cheek and makes his way towards the stair case.
"Buenas noches Lupita." he stops and smiles at her. She looks up to him with a sweet smile.
(good night)
"Buenas noches a usted tambien Mr. Logan." she says smiling as he walks upstairs.
(good night to you too)
Logan lays in his bed staring up at the ceiling. A tear falls from his eye because he knows his family is not accepting of just anybody. His father and mother have expressed their feelings towards other races, and the only reason why they have a Hispanic maid is so they can mock and laugh at her while she works her body to raise a few dollars to send to her family in Mexico. And gay people?, his parents are those typical religious "God hates fags" believers, and it breaks Logan's heart because he too is gay, and he knows that he would be disowned if he were to come out to his parents.
He just wants his parents to be accepting…
Morning, high school.
The bell rings signaling the start of the morning. Students fill the hallways as they make their way towards homeroom. Logan meets his two best friends Kendall and James by their lockers. He's the only one that knows about James and Kendall's relationship and he couldn't be happier for them. But at the same time he feels jealous and sad that he doesn't have anybody to love like they do. At school they're straight, hockey playing boys. You see they go to a school with not so many students, mostly hunters and rednecks, religious and close minded people.
Logan's bullying problem was bad enough already considering he's one of the smartest kids at the school, and just imagine how much more worse it would get if he were to come out as gay? A gay nerd? Yeah that's not a walking 'kick me' sign. I mean Kendall and James can protect themselves fairly easily, but Logan, considering his smaller build, yeah not so much. I mean if you could only see the size of some of the guys around here. It's like the doctors inject them with steroids as soon as they're out of their mothers womb.
His biggest problem: Ozzy
He's the roughest, toughest, homophobic prick that walks the hallways of the school. He's mean and raw and doesn't give a shit. He picks on kids smaller than him, slacks off, picks fights regularly and has a record with the police. He's a criminal in the making. Speak of the devil himself here he comes now.
"Hey fags." he pushes Logan and James into the lockers hard. Logan looks over to Kendall and he swears he sees a flame flair through his green orbs.
"What did you say, dick head?." grits Kendall, stepping up to the taller, bigger boy. Ozzy smirks and pokes him in the chest making him take a step back.
"Protecting your little fag boyfriends Knight?." he grins sadistically. Kendall balls his fists. Logan and James eyes flicker between the heated males. James gulps because he knows how Kendall gets when anybody messes with his friends.
"Just go Ozzy." he hisses darkly.
"What the fuck are you going to do about it…faggot." he says. Logan and James don't even have time to blink because Kendall's fist is shoved in the bigger boys' face. James gapes and pulls Kendall back because the blonde hasn't had enough.
"That's what!." he spits. The bigger boy looks at him, wiping the blood from his lip. Logan and James gasp as they see him raise his own fist and with blinding force he socks Kendall in the side of the face. He falls straight to the ground.
"Kendall!." yells Logan and drops to tend his injured friend. James stares with wide eyes at his boyfriend lying on the ground unconscious. Logan sees from the corner of his eye as James balls his shaking fists. He jumps up in front of the heated pretty boy.
"Move Logan." says James in a hushed voice. It's filled with malice and that scares Logan. James in the heat of the moment does stupid things without thinking about it first and that usually ends up with him bruised.
"No James!." he pushes back against his broad chest. Ozzy chuckles mockingly at James.
"What are you going to do fairy?."
BAM! He eats shit. James's fist flew straight to his nose making the bigger asshole stumble back into the lockers. There is a gathered crowd now and they chant. James goes to finish what he was started but two teachers are breaking through the crowd and separating the boys.
Detention!
Kendall's eyes flutter open, his head is throbbing. In his blurry vision is a moving figure that makes him even more dizzier than he already is. He groans groggily.
"Kendall." that voice he knows it. His vision finally clears up and he's met with James staring down at him with a sweet smile but worried expression.
"J-James." he groans, rubbing his forehead.
"W-what happened." he closes his eyes. He feels a soft hand caress his cheek.
"You're in the nurses office." he mutters quietly. Kendall's eyes shoot open and he sits up a little too fast, he groans and grabs his head as he lays down again.
"What? Why?."
"Ozzy knocked you out." no reason in beating around the bush.
"Fuck…he whispers. Well his hero status just went from Spider-Man to Peter Parker. So not cool.
"He gave your eye a pretty good…punch." says James brushing his fingers along the bruising. Kendall winces slightly. He opens one eye.
"Are you okay?." asks Kendall. James smiles. Even when he's the one in the nurses office with an ugly bruise, he's worrying about James.
"I'm okay." he raises his bandaged wrist. Kendall sits up slightly and grabs it.
"What happened?." he asks looking into those hazel eyes that make him melt.
"I gave him a few good punches myself." he smiles looking down at his hurt hand. Kendall looks at him for a moment before smiling.
"My hero." he whispers pushing back a stray of brown hair from his eyes. James bites his lip blushing and looks around before leaning down to kiss Kendall soundly.
"No…my hero." he whispers against his lips. Kendall smiles before pulling him into a more passionate and longer kiss…
The boys are hanging out in Kendall's shed in his backyard. It's quite big and there is not that much junk in there. Plus they have a mini fridge in there and a heater. Logan is laying on a warm blanket doing his homework while James and Kendall get friendly in the corner. Logan doesn't need to know what's going on underneath the blanket, the kissing is good enough.
"You know I was thinking." says James parting lips with Kendall. Said blonde hums and attaches his lips to the soft tan neck. Logan looks up from his place.
"You can think?." he says sarcastically. James rolls his eyes at the sarcasm.
"Very funny. But no…Kendall stop. Listen." he says trying to pull away from the horny blonde. Kendall shakes his head stubbornly and pulls him in closer. James sighs, it's hopeless.
"I was t-thinking…what if, what if, we go t-to California?." he manages to say between moans. Kendall pulls away with a pop and looks him in the eyes.
"California? For what?." he asks. Logan seems to be thinking the same thing.
"Well you know, over there we could be more…open." he shrugs. Kendall and Logan look at each other.
"As in?.' asks Logan, sitting up slightly.
"As in, out…of the closet."
"James, we can't just go to California because you want to be "out" he makes air quotes with his fingers. Logan nods in agreement.
"Yes we can Kendall. California has a lot of gay people."
"Yes but how would we get to California?, I mean we don't have a car-
"Kendall does." James says immediately.
"But we don't have money-
"I have a personal account." he chimes in again.
"Drivers licenses-
"You do Logan, and Kendall just got his permit."
"School?."
"Well I mean it's almost Christmas break, perfect time."
"Yeah but James, our parents would never let us."
"Who said anything about parents?." says James, smirking mischievously.
"What? That's absurd James. Our parents have to know." reasons Logan the kill joy.
Sign, "No they don't and you want to know why?." James jumps up to his feet.
"I'm so tired of this place. Of all the close minded, bigoted idiots. I'm tired of all the judging and inequality. I just want to be able to hold my boyfriends hand. I just want to walk out and breath."
"James-
He cuts Logan off.
"No Logan. Aren't you tired of it? Of all the negativity. From our school, teachers, friends, from our damn parents?."
"Jamie-
He cuts Kendall off.
"No Ken, I'm sick of it. Of all of this…I just want to feel accepted." he whispers sadly.
"I know baby, I know, but wherever we go we will be judged. What's so different about California?."
…They wont be able to see me there. Us."
Silence.
Logan looks like he's contemplating the idea. It would be nice to get away from the negative energy from his home. James is staring at him and Kendall. Kendall looks like he's considering it.
"When should we leave?." asks Kendall. James grins and Logan looks at him in shock…
Kendall closes his vans trunk after James finishes putting in his hundredth suitcase. He smiles sheepishly at Kendall's questioning brow. They wait down the street from Logan's house, it's dark and late. Around two in the morning.
Inside.
Logan carefully creeps around his bedroom. His parents sleep just across from him and they're light sleepers. He finishes packing his last bag and throws it out the window onto Kendall's open arms. He gives him a thumbs up. He walks over to his shelf and grabs a small safe, turning the combination he opens it. He's had a few hundred saved in there from past Christmases, birthdays, allowances etc. he even grabs the golden watch his grandfather left to him and sticks in his pocket.
He walks towards the open window. He turns to look at his room once more. His desk is missing the lap top that's now in Kendall's van. His closet is almost empty save for some old shirts. His bed is made with a note for his parents. He sighs and climbs out after turning the light off. He jumps off from the wall onto the snow. Kendall and James smile at him and they make their way from the back yard around towards the front. They step quietly and slowly onto the fresh powder, cringing slightly as it cracks.
Their hearts beat fast. They're actually going through with this. Just as they're about to step on the sidewalk. The front door flies open. Their heads shoot up towards the porch where a man and a woman are looking.
"Logan!." calls his mother. They look at each other. Logan gulps and shoots them a look that says" I told you it wouldn't work!'
"Logan!." this time it's his father. He jumps at his voice. Logan slowly steps into view. The looks on their faces are incredulous and in shock.
"What are you doing out here!." demands his father. Logan gulps and his hands begin to tremble.
"Answer me!." he growls.
"And why is your room half empty?." his mother chimes in from besides the bigger man.
" I-I-I-I…he stammers looking over at Kendall and James who give him courage with their eyes.
"I'm…leaving." he says.
"What?." asks the tall man.
"I said I'm leaving."
"Like hell you are. Get back in the house, and you two back to your homes now!." he yells at Kendall and James.
"No." says Logan quietly.
"Logan now-
"He's not going anywhere." Kendall comes to his defense.
"I always knew you were bad news Knight."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?." he demands defensively.
"You are a bad influence on Logan." says his mother.
Kendall's jaw drops in shock.
"I'm the bad influence? What about you? His so called parents? Huh! What about all the negative bull shit you shove down his throat?."
Kendall is livid. James can see his muscles tense from underneath his thick coat.
"You watch your tone boy." says Mr. Mitchell.
"Fuck you! You're not my dad."
"Kendall-
He cuts Logan off.
"No Logan. You can't let your father control you your whole life. Stand up for yourself. Preach what you believe."
"Get off my property before I call the police!." he growls at Kendall.
"No!." yells Kendall back.
"Get the hell off-
"SHUT THE FUCK UP DAD!."
Four sets of eyes land on Logan. Surprised and incredulous. James feels like saying "Right on Loges!." but he think this isn't the time or place. So he cheers him on mentally.
Logan's chest is heaving, and his heart is beating. The hairs on the back of his head are standing up. And chill after chill run up his spine. He just talked back to his father. And with a bad word! Pats for Logan!
"What did you say?." he asks in disbelief.
"I said to be quiet. For once."
"Logan, get in the house now."
"No dad. I'm sick of it.'
"Sick of what!."
"Of everything!."
"Logan sweetie-
"Don't call me that!." he yells over his mother. She covers her mouth with her hand.
"What in gods name can you be sick of?." asks his dad.
"Of the way you guys are…of your beliefs. Of how you judge everything and everyone."
"What are you talking about?."
"Of you and mom. You hate everyone that isn't part of your religion. Everyone who doesn't agree with you…I don't agree with you. I never have and I never will."
"Logan…you've obviously been hanging around those boys for way too long, now get-
"I'm not going inside. And they're not who's at fault here. I'm leaving."
"Logan please come in sweetie. Whatever it is you're going through we'll get through it. Together." his mom says.
"Promise me mom and dad. Promise me that you'll accept me. That you wont turn your backs on me.'
"What is it?." his father asks crossing his arms across his chest. Logan steps closer to the steps.
"I'm, I'm g-gay." he whispers, a lone tear falling from his eye. Such a weight has been lifted off his shoulders.
"You're what?." his fathers tone is menacing and low.
"I'm gay dad…and I just want you guys to-
The door is slammed on his face.
…accept me." his head falls down as his tears fall. His heart has just been shattered all over that door step. His parents hate him. He's out. He begins to sob as James and Kendall wrap their arms around him and pull him into a group hug. The hug providing just an enough amount of love that Logan so desperately needs right now. But it still does not compare to the love of his parents. The parents who just threw him out in the cold. They enter the van and Kendall drives down the street. Logan cries as he looks back at his house just as the porch light goes off. James squeezes his hand and gives his a reassuring smile. They're going to be okay.
I'm a bad kid and I will survive.
so? what did you think? Review? please?
anyways, it's a Kames with future Cargan, and I'm even thinking about adding Jo and Camille somewhere in there. They're the "Bad Kids" the gay, the nerd, the Hispanic, the unaccepted. But it's time to rebel against what society expects of them. They're going to make their own rules. It's time to put their foot down. Their rebellion will take over nations, with the sounds of powerful music, powerful politics, and equality.
